Catterick Place 6 preview | 12th January

12.30 – Watch Racing TV Now Novices’ Hurdle – 3m1f

Kim Bailey’s BROOMFIELD PRESENT opened his account at the first time of asking under rules on hurdles debut 48 days ago and this longer trip should suit him better given how strongly he stayed on in the closing stages last time. With more to come, he is fancied to defy his penalty under David Bass in the opener.

Selections: BROOMFIELD PRESENT

13.05 – racingtv.com Mares’ Handicap Hurdle – 3m1f

BRANDISOVA’ ran a really good race when second last month and, if able to reproduce that form in this race, she could go one better. IMPERIAL PRIDE couldn’t land a blow on her handicap debut last time but she made the frame in her two previous starts and has left the impression she can make an impact off this sort of mark when conditions are better.

Selections: BRANDISOVA, IMPERIAL PRIDE

13.40 – Millbry Hill Novices’ Handicap Chase – 3m1f

BEAT THE EDGE would have won at Wetherby over Christmas without sprawling on landing at the second last when seemingly in control of the race. He has been raised 7Ib for that effort but must have an excellent chance to make amends here. Of the others, don’t rule out MIXEDWAVE, who is bred to be a better chaser than a hurdler and looks best of the rest in this weak race for the grade.

Selections: BEAT THE EDGE, MIXEDWAVE

14.15 – EBF ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle – 2m3f

This is a good race and it’s hard to split the pair at the top of the market. BINGOO showed good form in bumpers, winning once and placing in the other two before easily scoring on his hurdles debut at Hexham. He should relish this longer distance and should go close, while Donald McCain’s GENERAL OFFICER has won both starts over hurdles and should also be effective over this longer distance.

Selections: BINGOO, GENERAL OFFICER

14.50 – Vickers.Bet North Yorkshire Grand National Handicap Chase – 3m5f

This 3m5f event will take some getting but LEGENDS RYDE won three times last term and kept on well to take third at Cheltenham when last spotted. She is unexposed over staying distances and could continue her good run of form with a big effort here. SAM’S ADVENTURE has stamina in abundance and is 17Ib below his last winning mark, which came in the 2021 Eider Chase over 4m+. He has to enter calculations.

Selections: LEGENDS RYDE, SAM’S ADVENTURE

15.25 – Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Hurdle – 3m1f

LADY BOWES should strip fitter for her reappearance when pulled up and twice made the frame last winter off higher marks. She has the capabilities to go well here in a race where a lot of her rivals have plenty to prove at present. I like the claims of BEAUFORT WEST too, who is back on the same mark as when winning in this grade last March and therefore this nine-year-old has excellent place claims.

Selections: LADY BOWES, BEAUFORT WEST
