York Win 6 Preview | 21st August

13.50 Sky Bet Mile Handicap (Heritage Handicap)

IRONWILL is a really smart horse and was last seen running really well to finish second at Goodwood. This longer trip asks a question but he’s a player if he stays. STORMING POINT (sixth) and ZENNOR STORM (second) ran well at Goodwood as well last time out and are others to consider, given both should have plenty more to come. I like the chances of these three.

Tips: IRONWILL, STORMING POINT & ZENNOR STORM

14.25 Weatherbys Lonsdale Cup Stakes (Group 2)

CABALLO DE MAR has been given time to get over his race in the Gold Cup, where he weakened tamely after looking like he would get involved. This is easier, and a repeat of his penultimate Group 1 success would give him outstanding claims. AL NAYYIR has placed on all three previous starts at this venue and is another to note with Buick booked to ride.

Tips: CABALLO DE MAR & AL NAYYIR

15.00 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2)

ARAPAHO GOLD is unbeaten in three and was a good winner of a Listed event last time out. He should make a bold bid, while MRAIR and MUSSAB, who shaped nicely at Ascot when last seen, are others who could get involved. The former was an unlucky eighth in the Coventry, while the latter finished third in the Norfolk (would have been second at least with a clear passage). I like their claims.

Tips: ARAPAHO GOLD, MRAIR & MUSSAB

15.35 Coolmore City Of Troy Nunthorpe Stakes (Group 1)

STARLUST lacks consistency but is a Grade 1 winner and has placed in several other top-level events, including when third in this race last year. His latest fourth over C&D was decent, so he’s not without hope. TIME FOR SANDALS is another Group 1 winner and returned to form when third at Goodwood last time out, so she’s of interest, along with the exciting BACIO and PERSHAADA, who receives a massive weight allowance. She hosed up in a Group 3 last time out and connections seem keen to roll the dice with her. Even though this asks a lot of her, she does have plenty in her favour.

Tips: STARLUST, TIME FOR SANDALS, BACIO & PERSHAADA

16.10 Assured Data Protection Handicap

ZANNDABAD finished an unlucky fourth at this meeting last year and has been given far too much to do on his last couple of starts despite shaping quite well in each of those. He could pose a threat this time under Jamie Spencer. I also like SAY WHAT YOU SEE, who came close to landing the hat-trick when last seen at Southwell and won here on his penultimate outing, so he’s one to consider. WAVE RIDER completes the shortlist.

Tips: ZANNDABAD, SAY WHAT YOU SEE & WAVE RIDER

16.45 British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes

LANCASTER TOWER should be able to take a step forward from his promising debut third at Sandown and have a say in the latter. The same can be applied to LAUNCH SEQUENCE, who has made the frame on both career starts and should be suited to the step up in distance.

Tips: LANCASTER TOWER & LAUNCH SEQUENCE
