Most of these are not very well handicapped so I’ll give a chance to NORTHERN EMPIRE. He has yet to make an impact in four handicap starts but his earlier form must mean he’s well treated off this mark of 76. With his rider also taking off a further 3lb, Ed Walker’s charge makes plenty of appeal.

BUCKLAND BELLE could hardly arrive in better form and was last seen winning very comfortably at Leicester. She went up 6lb as a result but there’s every chance she will defy it while the iron is hot. I like her credentials.

VIKING GLORY ran his best race in a handicap when third at Yarmouth last time out and is likely to build on it off a pound lower mark. He has plenty of progress to come, so there’s no reason why he cannot have a big say in the matter.

STARSONG has a good record here, winning twice over C&D off marks of 53 and 51 and is back down to her last winning figure. She went very close at Pontefract when last seen and must be considered a major player with a repeat performance. I think she has outstanding claims.
