Wolverhampton Place 6 preview | 18th January

13.40 – BetUK Over 40,000 Live Streamed Races Handicap – 1m1f

CICELY saves her winning form for this course given all of her three wins have been at the West Midlands venue and she won quite comfortably over C&D last time. She has been raised 5Ib but that shouldn’t stop her from going close in what is a weak contest, where only herself and one other runner makes appeal.

RICHARD R H B might emerge as the biggest threat, who has won and made the frame numerous times off higher marks in better races on the all-weather and drops into a class 6 on this surface for the first time in quite a long time. All four career wins have been here and he is 5Ib lower than when last successful, which came over C&D as well. He merits consideration.

Selections: CICELY, RICHARD R H B

14.10 – talkSPORT Download The App Maiden Stakes – 1m1f

SUPER MO really caught the eye when he finished 4th on debut behind Ferrari Queen and wasn’t disgraced when 2nd last time behind an odds-on favourite. He is reunited with Jamie Spencer for this race and, with the step up in trip seen as a good move, there’s a chance he could make it third time lucky in leg 2.

CHRONOGRAPH was drawn outside in the park on debut but he too caught the eye on debut where he stayed on strongly to take 3rd. Hugo Palmer’s charge should improve a lot from that promising display and have a say in the outcome here from a handy draw in stall 1.

Selections: SUPER MO, CHRONOGRAPH

14.40 – Spreadex Sports Best Premier League Odds Handicap – 1m

NICK VEDDER has been on the premises in three of his last four starts and is 10Ib below his last winning mark as well. He ran on strongly to take 3rd here three starts ago off this mark and, with the excellent Ryan Sexton offsetting 3Ib, this 9-year-old should be thereabouts despite a lower draw being preferred instead of 11.

GLOBAL STYLE is drawn better than the former in stall 3 and gets the services of Rossa Ryan, which is a positive. This 8-year-old has not been out of the first four in all of his last eight starts plus he was a bit unlucky not to win last time as he would have won in another few strides. He should be able to go close from a mark that’s well within range based upon past exploits.

Selections: NICK VEDDER, GLOBAL STYLE

15.15 – Spreadex Sports Get 40 In Bonuses Handicap – 1m

JENSON BENSON remains 5Ib above his last winning mark but he went close three starts back off a 1Ib higher mark at Chelmsford and there is every chance he will be suited to this venue as he likes to come from off the pace, so his draw won’t be an issue. He should be more than capable of filling the frame at least here in leg 4.

Mick Appleby’s FAST STYLE has won two of his four starts on the all-weather and produced a strong late surge to grab the spoils at Newcastle when last spotted. This is a slightly tougher race but Tom Marquand has been booked to ride and despite his draw, he should make a bold bid to win for the third time in succession in this sphere.

Selections: JENSON BENSON, FAST STYLE

15.50 – Spreadex Sports First Goalscorer Insurance Handicap – 7f

POLITICS has to concede a lot of weight to this field but the Mick Appleby-trained 5-year-old charged home to beat Free Solo comfortably 7 days ago at Lingfield and should take some beating given he’s bang in-form. He will have to overcome stall 7 but he has to be the one to side with in leg 5 as most of these find it difficult to get their head in front.

Selections: POLITICS

16.25 – BetUK’s Acca Club £5 Free Bet Handicap – 6f

It’s been a while since Ivan Furtado’s MAY REMAIN last tasted success but he has run well in all of his starts at this course and has fallen to a career-low mark of 54 here. He is drawn reasonably in stall 6 and is 18Ib below his last winning mark too, so he could go well at large odds here in the sixth and final leg of the preview.

I will also chuck in KENSINGTON AGENT, who ran as well as ever when 2nd last time off only a 1Ib lower mark and would only need a reproduction of that effort to be competitive in this race as well. This filly is drawn well in stall 3 and shouldn’t have an issue back over this shorter distance either, so she is included.

Selections: MAY REMAIN, KENSINGTON AGENT
