Who scored the most hat-tricks in Premier League history?

Three goals in a game is every striker’s dream. The hat-trick is the holy trifecta of football, guaranteed to solidify a strikers place as a club hero for years to come. Whether it’s down to pure skill, luck or some less-than-fortunate defending, there aren’t many achievements higher than taking home the match ball after smashing in a hat-trick. Today we take a look at the players who have scored the most hat-tricks in Premier League history.

Most Premier League hat-tricks ever – Top 6

Michael Owen – 8

“Footballers these days often have to use their feet” is just one of many infamous commentary quotes from the joint sixth-placed player on our list.

Michael Owen first rose to prominence with his World Cup performance in ‘98, where he debuted as both England’s youngest ever player and youngest goalscorer.

8 seasons with Liverpool, 4 at Newcastle, a less than savoury transfer to Manchester United and a whole host of injuries later, Owen managed to secure himself 8 hat-tricks across his Premier League career.

Harry Kane – 8

Ranking 11th on the Premier League’s all time-top goalscorers list at just 27 is no easy feat. It’s safe to say that Harry Kane has been on top form the past seven seasons, and this next achievement is just one of many to add to his ever-growing repertoire.

The Premier League’s leading scorer two years in a row, from 2015 – 2017, World Cup Golden Boot winner in 2018 and now tied on this list with 8 hat-tricks in his 214 games for Tottenham.

Thierry Henry – 8

Widely regarded as one of the greatest forwards to grace the English game, Thierry Henry is our third (and final) player to have netted 8 career hat-tricks in the Premier League.

An illustrious career with the likes of Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona and the New York Red Bulls made Henry a household name – with a little helping hand from va va voom. The Henry-Wenger era will hold a fond memory in any Football fans heart as we saw him lift 2 Premier League trophies, 3 FA Cups, and bag a huge 175 goals for the Gunners. Not to mention that he was the star player in one of the greatest Premier League teams of all time.

Robbie Fowler – 9

Before his managerial days at Indian Super League’s East Bengal, Robbie Fowler played out his striking days as a Liverpool and Premier League legend. With a resume as long as your arm, Fowler had a lengthy career in English football bouncing from Liverpool to Leeds to Man City then back to Liverpool all in the space of 14 years.

Known for his top-class finishing touch, not only did he manage to score one of the Premier League’s fastest ever hat-tricks (at a smidgen over 4 minutes) but he also netted 9 total hat-tricks across his career, bringing him at 3rd on our list.

Alan Shearer – 11

You couldn’t have a list like this without the then top divisions youngest ever hat-trick goal scorer. In Shearer’s first full debut for Southampton in 1988, the then 17-year old put 3 goals past Arsenal, breaking a 30-year-old record set by the legendary Jimmy Greaves.

Newcastle hero, the top scorer in Premier League history and winner of two consecutive Golden Boots, Alan Shearer comes in at 2nd on our list with a whopping 11 career hat-tricks.

Sergio Aguero – 12

Arguably the best striker to touch down on English soil, Sergio Aguero tops the table with a huge 12 hat-tricks in the Premier League.

The Argentinean forward and Manchester City front-man, Aguero has helped his team to 4 League titles in just 9 seasons, as well as an FA Cup, a Europa League trophy and a Golden Boot.

Aguero also sits as the Premier League’s 4th highest, and still-active, goalscorer – only time will tell where he’ll be a few years down the line.
