The top 5 Esports Organizations in the World

Since Coronavirus decimated the sporting calendar, many sports fans have turned to online gaming for entertainment. In 2020, eSports players are reaching huge audiences from their homes and the numbers keep increasing. As an industry, eSports has been rising annually and the current isolation measures could provide an extra boost. Here’s our list of the top five eSports organizations in the world.

 

5. FaZe Clan

FaZe Clan — formerly known as FaZe Sniping — are a professional eSports organization based in Los Angeles, United States. Founded in May 2010, the eSports organization has players from around the world and play multiple games including Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, FIFA, and Fortnite Battle Royale.

The FaZe organization has built one of the most impressive brands in all of eSports. What began as a simple YouTube channel is now one of the most well-known names for fans of Call of Duty. FaZe Clan describe themselves on their official website as the most popular eSports organization in the world. In January 2020, FaZe Clan obtained a $22.7 million investment loan from Canaccord Genuity, a Canadian financial company.

 

4. Astralis

Astralis are a eSports organization partially owned by players from the former Danish seam SoloMid and Team Questionmark. Astralis were founded in 2016 as a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. Supported by some Danish investors, the players became their own bosses and achieved strong results on the world stage.

Astralis hold the record for most CS:GO major victories (4) and have won the last three. Their CS:GO squad was voted “eSports Team of the Year” at the eSports Awards in 2018. In March 2020, CEO Nikolaj Nyholm confirmed that es3tag will officially join the team on July 1st 2020, adding another star eSports player to their squad.

 

3. Team Liquid

Team Liquid are a multi-regional professional eSports organization based in the Netherlands. The team was founded in 2000 and signed their first professional players in 2010 when StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released. In 2012, Team Liquid acquired a North American Dota 2 team, marking their first venture into multi-genre management.

20 years later, Team Liquid are a world renowned professional eSports organization. They currently have over 60 championship calibre players in 14 of the world’s top games. Their League of Legends franchise was the best North American team in 2018, claiming NALCS Spring and Summer titles in back-to-back splits. They are one of the strongest teams in CS:GO, Rainbow 6: Siege, Melee, Street Fighter, Fortnite and PUBG.

 

2. Fnatic

Fnatic are based in London. The organization was founded in 2004 and now possesses eSports players from around the world. Fnatic play a variety of games including Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile, and Rainbow Six Siege.

Fnatic has teams and players in multiple eSports games but it was the championship pedigree they established in Counter-Strike and LoL that was essential to building one of the biggest eSports brands in Europe. Fnatic creators are scheduled to generate more than 100 million hours of entertainment content in 2020 to an audience of more than 15 million fans across different social media platforms.

 

1. Cloud9

Cloud9 (C9) are an American professional esports organization and are also based in Los Angeles. C9 were founded in 2013 when CEO Jack Etienne bought the former Quantic Gaming League of Legends roster. Following the success of the Cloud9’s League of Legends team, the team began expanding into other eSports.

In 2018, Cloud9’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster became the first and only North American team to win a Major after defeating FaZe Clan 2–1 in the ELEAGUE Major: Boston. Cloud 9 have appeared at every LoL World Championships since their inception and have won two LCS splits and four North American Regional Finals. The total prize money earned by the organization has now reached over 9 million dollars in 718 tournaments.
