Shrewd Call lands huge bonus in Colossus Silver Salver

Shrewd Call claimed the Colossus Bets Silver Salver at Central Park on Sunday night, landing owner Kelly Searle a fantastic £13,000 windfall in the process.

Following his sponsorship of the Kent Silver Salver, one of the most prestigious races in UK greyhound racing, Colossus CEO Bernard Marantelli had offered a £10,000 bonus to the eventual champion, on top of the £3,000 first prize, if they could remain unbeaten throughout the event.

As final night approached, three dogs were unbeaten and in with a chance of landing the £10k bonus, Shrewd Call, King Drake and Ballynabee Lucky. However, there was to be a twist in the tale as Marantelli offered each owner the opportunity to fully or partially Cash Out in the days leading up to the race.

King Drake was offered £1,800, Ballynabee Lucky received a £1,500 offer and Shrewd Call, the 7/4 favourite, was presented with a very tempting £3,750. The offers were put to the public on Twitter but Colossus followers overwhelmingly voted in favour of Searle not cashing out;

After much deliberation, Searle opted to turn down the Cash Out offer and put her faith in Shrewd Call landing the Silver Salver, with the owners of King Drake and Ballynabee Lucky opting to do the same.

It certainly proved to be a shrewd call from Searle, with Shrewd Call streaking home in first place to claim the Silver Salver with a time of 16.12 seconds, just 0.14 seconds ahead of King Drake who was cruelly pipped to the post but still received £500 for finishing second.

Congratulations to Kelly, Team Mullins and, of course, Shrewd Call on a fantastic performance!
