Royal Ascot Win 6 Preview | 19th June

14.30 Albany Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3)

SUN GODDESS confirmed the promise of her debut second when easily getting off the mark at the Curragh and is bound to improve again, so she must be one to feature in the opener.

However, LIGHT OF DAWN looked impressive at Carlisle on debut and connections clearly think a lot of her to be putting her in this contest just 11 days later. She could be the one to give the favourite a problem or two.

Tips: SUN GODDESS & LIGHT OF DAWN

15.05 Commonwealth Cup (Group 1)

The more I look at the Commonwealth Cup, the more I am drawn to VENETIAN SUN. She has never been defeated over this distance, winning Group 2’s and a Group 1 and was really impressive at Haydock last time out. She was a good winner of the Albany Stakes over C&D at this meeting last year, where she beat Balantina, who was last seen winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. That is fantastic form, so Karl Burke’s filly ticks all of the boxes and is strongly fancied to stamp her class on the field.

Tips: VENETIAN SUN

15.40 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes

BURDETT ROAD has been running well in Meydan this year and won at this meeting back in 2023. He isn’t badly handicapped off a mark of 100 considering he was rated as high as 111 last year. I can see him going well under Luke Morris.

HOPEWELL ROCK has only been out of the frame once so far in his career and caught the eye when a strong-finishing third at Newmarket last time out. Off the same mark, with more to come, and James McDonald in the saddle, George Boughey’s charge makes plenty of appeal.

Joseph O’Brien’s EMIT is the other one I want to include. It’s interesting to see Ryan Moore retain the ride after finishing fourth at the Curragh when last seen. Even though he ran poorly at this meeting last year, a better performance is clearly expected.

Tips: BURDETT ROAD, HOPEWELL ROCK & EMIT

16.20 Coronation Stakes (Group 1)

PRECISE can collect the Coronation Stakes. She could only finish seventh in the 2000 Guineas on her reappearance having won four on the bounce last year but took a major step forward at the Curragh. She comfortably turned the tables on stablemate True Love and appears to have all of the ingredients to a fourth Group 1 success on the third day of the Royal meeting.

Tips: PRECISE

17.00 Sandringham Stakes

I am really sweet on the chances of LYRICS OF LIFE at a big price.

Brian Meehan’s charge has run with so much credit against some very good horses. She split Evolutionist and Legacy Link in second at Newmarket last year before chasing home the latter at Haydock. She’s placed on both outings this year behind So Regal, including here last time, and looks well handicapped off a mark of 85 with SDS in the saddle. With plenty of positives taken into account, this filly is a definite player.

MUBASIMAH has been highly tested since winning on debut and even contested the 1000 Guineas. She went close in a Group 3 in October and wasn’t beaten far when fifth in a French Group 2 last time out. With Doyle booked, and this race likely to be run to suit on handicap debut, she’s the other one to be interested in.

Tips: LYRICS OF LIFE & MUBASIMAH

17.35 King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2)

WATER TO WINE has looked a potentially top-class horse in dismantling his rivals on both starts to date and gets his chance to showcase what he can do at this level. He’s open to significant improvement and William Buick takes the ride this time. With plenty more to come, this son of Kingman can keep his unbeaten record intact at the expense of Causeway.

Tips: WATER TO WINE
