Romford Tips: Badminton Donal looks the Friday night banker

Syndicate Captain Cheltmental has penned us this preview of Friday night’s Romford action in a bid to take on the £15,000 Win 8 pool. He fancies Badminton Donal as his banker in an otherwise tricky meeting.

18:27 – 400m – Winner Of One

RACKITUPCHARLIE drawn in Trap 1 looks steady enough from the traps and should be able to lead up Trap 2, he should also have the measure of him on the overall clock too.

CHOPCHOP BASIL has never raced this far from the rail so he’s liable to move in at the turn if not before. He’s quick enough to be competitive but that’s a clear concern, although plenty ping from here and he would lead 2 with a level break.

Trap’s 4, 5 and 6 all have potential but it would be NATIVE COBBLER in the Orange jacket who would look very dangerous if getting on the bunny. He and KOVAC BAILEY in 4 will be pacing to the bend together and both get this trip well. With 3 likely to be moving in, these two might scamper round with Trap 1 and both would be capable of running him down with clear runs.

Selections – 1, 3, 4, 5

18:44 – 575m – Maiden Stayers

There are 4 railers in this one and it’s curious that Trap 4 makes his stayers debut at this trip when he could have gone for a 550m round Henlow, his local track. It’s actually the 3 inside traps that I think have this race between them and SALEEN AGAIN in 2 looks the likely leader of them. The slight problem for all three would be Trap 4 being a railer and blessed with plenty of early pace.

Trap 5 and 6 might end up getting the run of the race on the outside and BELUGA BOY moved well in a recent trial

Selections – 1, 2, 3, 6

19:03 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 1

This looks a good opportunity to get a banker leg in, with BADMINTON DONAL in Trap 4 the quickest of the field. He’s drawn to be able to lead if showing his usual early enthusiasm and I’d only expect Traps 2 or 6 to take advantage of any mistake.

Selection – 4

19:17 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 2

This looks a much more competitive heat but I do think the winner comes from the inside. BLUE TICK GEORGE would be one of the youngest runners in the competition but he’s clocked the quickest time of this field, albeit in a trial. He doesn’t look likely to get round the first bend which is a major concern and I’m not sure we’ll see his best here.

The likely leader here is LAGILE SKY from Trap 3 and this local runner is a top-grade winner already. Trap 2 would probably be the one to come together with 1 at the turn, but he stays well so would be a danger if securing a clear round.

Selections – 2,3

19:33 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 3

Looking for a pace angle in here isn’t easy but Trap 6 should get to the front at the first and on his best time he’ll hose up. However, he’s not been seeing out his race and has raced wide recently which have scuppered his chances.

That move out wide from 6 could allow SNEEZYS OSPREY in Trap 5 to go round the first couple of bends and if he secures a clear passage I think he could be the answer.

Trap 2 has been progressive lately and comes here likely to put in a personal best, but he and Trap 1 looks very similar on the clock both at sectionals and finish times, but I do think he’s the better dog of the pair.

Selections – 2, 5, 6

19:49 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 4

This heat looks red hot and I think any one of Trap’s 3, 4, 5 or 6 could land this.

PARSNIP GERRY sprung a surprise when winning here recently but that was a very assured performance and, with a clear round, he’ll be bang there at the finish. However, if we can trust Trap 3 recent Trial then he’s going to take some pegging back. He’s got the ping box and, if able to lead up 4 and 5, he’s expected to take this although I’m under no illusions that he’ll be come back to the field after the last.

Selections – 3, 4, 6

20:06 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 5

A tricky looking heat but I’ve whittled it down to just two dogs of interest.

VANCOUVER MIKE has moved well in trials and won in a recent A1 so being the likely leader he’s a major player.

The danger is WHIZZY TIME in Trap 1 who should be able to get round the first bend in front of Trap 2 and, with a clear passage, is the quickest dog in the heat so is my idea of the winner.

Selections – 1, 5

20:21 – 400m – Romford Puppy Cup Heat 6

A bit of minefield looking race this one, with the draw a concern for PALATINE ANDER who otherwise would have been a quite confident pick.

Trap 1 YONUG PRINCESS has the pick of the draw and should lead on the inside and she’ll be near on impossible to peg back.

Selections – 1, 4
