@DaveTindallGolf‘s race to the Premier League Player of the Year after Matchday 9.

1/ Eden Hazard

(Last week: 1)

It’s a fifth straight week at the top for the Chelsea star, who remains the Premier League’s top scorer with seven despite failing to add to his tally in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United. We’re at the stage now where it seems hugely unlikely that the Blues could score twice in a game without Hazard directly involved in either. Still easily winning this race however.

2/ Virgil Van Dijk

(Last week: 2)

The kingpin of a Liverpool defence which is breaking records. After shutting out Huddersfield at the weekend, the Reds have now conceded just three goals in their opening nine league games. That’s the fewest in their history and the Reds have had a few useful teams down the years. Van Dijk looks easily the best defender in the top flight.

3/ Sergio Aguero

(Last week: 3)

Set Man City on the way to their five-goal win over Burnley with his sixth Premier League strike of the campaign and that puts him joint-second in the Golden Boot race and just one behind Hazard. He could easily be top having hit the woodwork three times while no player has attempted more shots than the Argentine’s 44.

4/ Raheem Sterling

(Last week: 5)

Pep gave him a rest at the weekend after his double strike inspired England to a 3-2 win over Spain. The confidence from that memorable night in Seville should reap big rewards for Sterling who is already having a huge impact with City this season after netting four goals and laying on two more.

5/ David Silva

(Last week: N/A)

Officially, he’s scored two goals and provided two assists in the Premier League this season. But the numbers would jump seriously if counting every move he was involved in that led to a goal. Still weaving his brilliance on a weekly basis and a big reason why City are top again.

6/ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

(Last week: N/A)

Only a sub against Leicester but came on and made an instant impact with two goals in the space of four minutes. That’s four in his last two PL games. Add in his double against Vorskla Poltava and that’s seven in five. Officially the hottest striker in the top-flight on current form.

7/ Harry Kane

(Last week: 6)

Couldn’t find a goal against West Ham but this summer’s Golden Boot winner played a key part in England’s win over Spain and has five in the Premier League and another against Barcelona so is still having a major influence for club and country despite not being at his lethal best.

8/ Callum Wilson

(Last week: 7)

Like Kane, he couldn’t add to his tally against Southampton but three goals and four assists (second most in the Premier League) have helped Bournemouth up to sixth place when many were tipping them for relegation. Bright, lively and full of confidence.

9/ Gylfi Sigurdsson

(Last week: 8)

Everton are going in the right direction after three straight wins and the Icelandic star has scored three times in that run. Five for the season in all comps and showing why the Toffees paid big money to Swansea.

10/ Joe Gomez

(Last week: N/A)

Superb alongside Virgil Van Dijk in central defence in the early games and his standards haven’t dropped since being shunted to right-back to accommodate Dejan Lovren. Strong and one of the quickest defenders around.
