Saturday’s Fixtures

Guingamp 1-0 Lille

With two selections (1-0 and 1-1) from the first leg this punter was clearly expecting a low scoring game, typical of a Ligue 1 fixture, possibly swaying in favour of the home side. History suggests very close games between the two teams when facing each other at Stade du Roudourou with an even 5-4-5 record. However, Guingamp had taken the previous two home encounters 1-0, a factor this punter perhaps considered as they correctly covered the selection as Guingamp made it three 1-0 home wins in a row against Lille. He would be made to sweat however as Lille appeared to have held on to take home a tidy away point but for a 93rd minute winner to take our player through to the second leg.

Nantes 1-0 Caen

Up next was a mid-table clash between Nantes and Caen, a fixture which Nantes had come out on top of on three of the last four occasions. Caen had won on their last three outings albeit against three sides in the bottom four, this was to prove a tougher test. As with the first leg this player had opted for a 1-0 home victory, predicting a repeat of the result when the sides last met in Nantes in January.  Backing low scoring outcomes appears to be a profitable method, with the weekend’s pick 20 winner calling five unders selections in Ligue 1 on his way to nearly £14K. A 73rd minute winner was enough to give the player two from two and send him sailing into Sunday.

Sunday

Sassuolo 1-3 Juventus

An early goal from Paulo Dybala left our winner relying on goals for Juventus as his 0-0 selection was out of the door after 16 minutes. Sassuolo had earned just one point from their three games whilst Juve were strong favourite to claim their fourth win in as many games. Shortly after half time Dybala had his second and the result looked a formality for the defending champions. A goal apiece 12 minutes apart had the fixture exactly where this punter wanted it, though perhaps sooner than he’d have liked, as Dybala sealed his hattrick. An undoubtedly nervous 30 minutes ensued but Juve were unable to add to their tally and the game played out to land leg three for this impressive ticket.

Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal

Last up was the tie of the week in the Premier League from Stamford Bridge and a surprising selection as our winner elected for a single 0-0 selection in what many had down to be a goal fest. Chelsea had won the last five encounters between the two sides at the Bridge and were most punters’ fancies to take the spoils. Arsenal were desperate to pick up a result and avoid gifting points to their Champions League rivals, particularly after a disappointing start with defeats at Stoke and Liverpool piling pressure on Wenger and his players. A tight affair saw Arsenal having perhaps the better chances and putting in a much more resilient effort, especially from the defence which had shipped four goals to Liverpool. It was to be a winning selection for this punter however, completing an impressive fourth correct selection and snatching £23,260.59, a profitable weekend.
