Pete O’Rourke’s Champions League Rollover Preview

Pete takes on this week’s mega rollover featuring four Champions League last 16 fixtures, get involved here!

Juventus v Tottenham

This is the hardest tie of the lot to choose from in the Pick 4 as Juventus are one of the strongest sides at home in the Champions League, while Tottenham have shown they can beat the best in Europe on their day. Juventus, who reached last season’s final, are undefeated in their last nine home matches, winning seven of the last nine in Turin. Tottenham won their group ahead of Real Madrid drawing with the holders in Spain, while also defeating Dortmund on their home patch. An away win may be a tough ask, but they can score and pick up a draw from their Italian job.

1-0, 0-0, 1-1, Other draw

FC Basel v Manchester City

Can anyone stop Manchester City in their bids for the quadruple? I don’t think FC Basel can stop them progressing in the Champions League. Basel may have beaten Manchester United this season and boast a good record against Premier League teams, but this Manchester City team seem relentless in their pursuit of glory. City are rightly favourites to go all the way in the Champions League this season after impressing in the group stages. I am happy to keep these selections down to an away win and spread more bets over the other three ties.

0-2, 0-3, Other Away Win

FC Porto v Liverpool

Liverpool’s recent away record in the Champions League has not been great and they will find it tough in Portugal against FC Porto. On their day Liverpool can beat anyone, but they can also lose to anyone as seen in their recent defeat to Swansea. Porto remain unbeaten domestically, but coming up against Liverpool will be a sterner test than they usually face in Portugal.

Liverpool are not set up to be cagey under Jurgen Klopp so expect the Reds to go in search of away goals to set themselves up for the second leg at Anfield. Liverpool’s defensive frailties always give the opposition opportunities so over 2.5 goals looks on the menu.

It looks a call between a high-scoring draw or a Liverpool win with both sides on the scoresheet.

1-1, Other Draw 1-2, 1-3

Real Madrid v PSG

Real Madrid normally save their best for the Champions League and they will need to if they are to save their season. PSG are dreaming of finally winning the Champions League and if they can knock out the holders it would be hard to bet against them going all the way. Real have the experience and the big-game know-how to win this game and goals should be on the menu at the Bernabeu.

I’ll make Real Madrid wins the focus but cover with a draw.

2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 1-1
