Huddersfield Town vs Bournemouth — X/2

Huddersfield have sunk like a stone of late, into the relegation zone. Bournemouth are headed the opposite direction, unbeaten in seven and into the top half. Expect the trend to continue this weekend.

Aston Villa vs Birmingham — 1/X

On the face of it it’s a home banker: six successive wins for Villa against 19th-placed Birmingham. But it’s a local derby, and the Blues’ away form is much better of late, with just one defeat in their last six. Villa should still be too strong and too confident, but a little caution is prudent given the context of the match.

Torino vs Udinese — 1/X/2

Maybe the tightest match to call in Europe’s top five leagues this weekend! Torino and Udinese are level on points in Serie A, have the same goal difference and have both won two of the last six. Going further, Torino have won 17 points at home this term, while Udinese have taken 16 on the road. That consistency away from home might just earn them a result but it’s tough to separate them.

Chievo vs Genoa — 1/X

Both teams are in woeful form and troubled by the threat of relegation. It’s a tough game to call particularly given Genoa’s marginal upturn in away results of late, but the saving grace for Chievo might just be that they’ve faced tough opponents, including Roma and Juventus, and a bottom three club is exactly what they need. They should get something at home, at least.

Strasbourg vs Troyes — 1

Seven away defeats on the bounce in Ligue 1 for Troyes, and no real reason why that should change this weekend. Strasbourg aren’t in great form themselves of late but having lost away to the other sides in the relegation zone recently, points at home are imperative.

Southampton vs Liverpool — 2

With a clutch of ex-Saints players in their ranks, there will be no surprises for Liverpool at the weekend in what they’ll be up against. The Reds have to keep pushing for victories and this match should suit them: they’ve scored more away goals than any other Premier League side, and Southampton haven’t won at home since late November. The St. Mary’s faithful will want their team to at least attempt to get a result, which will leave plenty of space for Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah et al to exploit.

Celta Vigo vs Espanyol — 1

Celta have been in good form of late, despite a surprise defeat at relegation threatened Alaves last time out. They’ve also won three of their last five at home, with the other two being a draw against Real Madrid and defeat to Villarreal—neither are shameful. Espanyol have taken a single win on the road this season and that came at bottom club Malaga.

Valencia vs Levante — 1

Three defeats on the spin and a cup semi-final exit means Valencia are far from in top form, but this is a derby and they need to bounce back. Goncalo Guedes is back available and manager Marcelino has been toying with a new system; they should have too much for Levante on home soil and resume their good overall campaign as they bid for a top-four finish.
