Newmarket Place 6 Preview | 3rd May

13.45 Oliver Brown Pretty Polly Stakes (Fillies’ Listed)

ESNA is the one I like in the opener. She beat a subsequent Listed winner on her penultimate start and ran a really good race when fourth in a French Group 1 when last seen. This is a big drop in grade on her reappearance and the step up in trip should suit. She looks like the appealing betting proposition against Sacred Ground.

Tips: ESNA

14.20 Betfred Dahlia Stakes (Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 2)

SURVIE seems the standout choice to me. This Group 2 winner has dined at the top table on several occasions, including when placing in two of them last year, featuring a good third in a hot renewal of the Pretty Polly at the Curragh. She scored on stable debut at Lingfield and ran with credit against the males when third in a Group 1 in Riyadh. She will get a better setup than when fourth at Kempton last time out and connections have booked Ryan Moore, so she’s respected.

Tips: SURVIE

14.55 Betfred Handicap (Heritage Handicap)

The form of KIHAVAH has been patchy of late and he’s not figured on all four starts this year but he will love the ground, the trip and is now back down to his last winning mark. He would have gone close in this race twelve months ago with a clear passage, so off this lower mark, he’s a player.

DRAMATIC STAR should be approaching peak-fitness after two starts this season and reproduction of his second in last season’s Old Borough Cup would be good enough to land this event. The first-time cheekpieces could perk him up a bit as well. I like his chances.

Tips: KIHAVAH & DRAMATIC STAR

15.35 Betfred 1000 Guineas Stakes (Fillies’ Group 1)

PRECISE can strike in the feature. The fact that Ryan Moore has opted for her instead of True Love could speak volumes. She improved with every start last season, winning two Group 1’s, including over C&D and should be capable of even better this season. Her handler has an outstanding record in this race too, winning it seven times, so she gets a vote of confidence.

Tips: PRECISE

16.10 Tattersalls 40,000 EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes

CROWNBREAKER looks the part on paper and wasn’t the cheapest of purchases either. Her stable has made a fine start to the season, so she could be ready for the task in hand. The other one to consider is HAVANA SPRITE for the James Tate and Rossa Ryan combination, alongside C&D debut second, CALL ME TOMORROW.

Tips: CROWNBREAKER, HAVANA SPRITE & CALL ME TOMORROW

16.45 Tattersalls Online 40,000 EBF Novice Stakes

THE DANCING PIRATE hails from a stable that is in red-hot form and this son of Blackbeard might prove capable of making a winning debut. NAPA stayed on well once the penny dropped at Newbury to finish fourth and could improve past Jaan Ki Tukri.

Tips: THE DANCING PIRATE & NAPA
