New player scoops huge win days after joining Colossus
A brand new Colossus player introduced themselves in sensational style over the weekend by landing an enormous five-figure win in the Rollover 1X2 Pick 8 pool.
Their £96 ticket had 48 different lines in the £39,792 pool, comprising European World Cup qualifiers as well as League One matches, and afforded them multiple selections in each of the opening five legs, all of which took place on Saturday.
To get the pool underway, Portsmouth pulled off an away win at Shrewsbury while AFC Wimbledon saw off Northampton in the 3pm matches. Then Turkey were resounding winners against Norway in the late afternoon game which got the ticket off to a flying start.
Two of the three evening kick-offs, Serbia vs. Portugal and Czech Republic vs. Belgium, left the new Colossus player cheering against home wins in both matches, as those were the only results not covered on their ticket.
A first half brace from Diego Jota saw Portugal race into the lead in Belgrade before Serbia staged a second half comeback to claim a point, thanks to a last minute Portugal goal being controversially disallowed. Meanwhile, in the Sinobo Stadium in Prague, Czech Republic took a surprise lead against Belgium, ranked first in the world, in the 50th minute, only for Romelu Lukaku to equalise ten minutes later, with the result staying the same until full time.
The third clash of the evening, and the trickiest proposition of the trio, was Republic of Ireland vs. Luxembourg. What perhaps looked like a walkover to many, with Ireland playing at home and heavily odds on to beat a side ranked 98th in the world, wasn’t quite as simple according to the new Colossus player, who went against the grain by making Luxembourg his only selection.
Ireland dominated the possession and had more shots throughout the game but had been in a dreadful run of form, failing to win in ten games. Perhaps suffering from a lack of confidence, they struggled to find the net against a resolute Luxembourg side. It was 0-0 going into the dying minutes when, remarkably, Gerson Rodrigues snatched a late winner for Luxembourg to break Irish hearts and pull off one of the biggest shocks in recent international football.
The new player had successfully navigated the extremely tricky opening day, which had obliterated all but 43 of the 28,373 units which had begun the pool just a few hours earlier. Resisting any overnight Cash Out offers, the player had just two legs to overcome on Sunday but, with a single selection in each, there was absolutely no room for error.
Armenia vs. Iceland was first up and the new Colossus player opted for the home side to beat the Scandinavians. Despite ceding much possession, it was goalless at half-time and evenything was still to play for. Then, in the 53rd minute, the Armenians broke the deadlock to put the player in a fantastic position.
Despite continuing to dominate proceedings, the Icelandic side were unable to break Armenia down and were punished for it when the home team struck again to seal a 2-0 victory and send the ticket into the final leg of the pool, which was Israel vs. Scotland.
If Scotland could hold Israel to a draw then the ticket had won and, after a first half in which Israel were the better side, it looked as though it would be a stalemate at the break. However, on the brink of half-time Dor Peretz put Israel ahead placing the ticket in serious jeopardy. Surely it couldn’t falter in the final leg?
The new player had to wait just 11 minutes after game resumed for their answer. New Scottish recruit Che Adams linked up with another Premier League player, Ryan Fraser, who levelled the game up. If the score stayed the same, the ticket was home and dry.
Scotland actually looked the better side in the closing stages of the game but neither side managed to find the net again and as the final whistle blew the player had done it.
Remarkably, just days after joining Colossus, the new player had converted a £96 ticket into £20,032, a 208x return on their stake. What an incredible win and start to life as a Colossus player!
