Lingfield betting tips

2:10 – Class 3 Fillies Handicap

The feature race of the day kicks off the action at Lingfield with 5 promising fillies heading to post.  It is hard to look past both Waliyak and Little Becky here who both look the sort to possibly pick up some black type come the end of the season.  Waliyak ran a brilliant second on her seasonal reappearance when losing out to Onassis in the Royal Ascot Sandringham stakes.  She then ran a good race at Glorious Goodwood before a slightly below par run at York last time.  However, she was still 4th that day in a far stronger race.  She should take a lot of beating on any of her previous runs with Ray Dawson taking 5lb off which is brilliant value.  If any are to improve past her, it could be the Ed Vaughan trained Little Becky.  She won a strong Kempton Novice race on debut last year before a good comeback run at Yarmouth giving weight to some promising horses.  She stayed on like the step up in trip will suit and looks to have a lot of promise about her.

Selections: Waliyak & Little Becky

2:40 – Class 5 Novice Stakes

Some powerful connections are represented in this Novice race where some unexposed staying types line up.  The two that come here with the best form are the John Gosden trained Amityaz and the Sir Michael Stoute trained Law of One.  It’s hard to look past these two who both finished 2nd on debut in strong Maidens, where the form has worked out quite well.  Preference would be for Law of One who is a half-brother to twice Arc placed Cloth of Stars, by super sire Galileo.  He was green on debut over 7 furlongs at Chelmsford, so the step up in trip to 12 furlongs here should suit on pedigree and he could make up into a high-class horse come the end of the season.

Selections: Law of One & Amityaz

3:10 – Class 4 Handicap

A stayer’s handicap over 2 miles for the third leg of my Lingfield betting tips, where the 3-year-old Immortal Beloved makes the most appeal.  She ran two nice Novice races over shorter trips before stepping into handicap company over 14 furlongs to score quite nicely.  She was staying on that day like the step up to 2 miles will suit, and with the 3-year-old allowance, could take a lot of beating for Charlie Fellowes who does brilliantly with this type of filly.  Paddleyourowncanoe is an interesting runner here for Jumps trainer Colin Tizzard.  He was in great form on the all-weather over the winter, ending that campaign with a 5 length 4th to Smart Champion at Newcastle in a stronger, and more valuable race than todays.  He then had two runs on the jumps running well in the first of those, before a disappointing run last time.  He re-opposes today 2lb lower than for his last flat run, and if he can translate that all weather form to turf, he looks like he could run a big race.

Selections: Immortal Beloved & Paddleyourowncanoe

3:40 – Class 5 Novice Stakes

Wings of a Dove sets the standard here after a couple of good efforts in Listed and Group contests.  She has only had the one run in a maiden/novice company and given the fact she receives almost a stone from Night on Earth, who is rated just 1lb higher means on ratings she should edge this contest.  Night on Earth is rated 89 and comes here on the back of running behind Wings of a Dove in a Goodwood Group 3, therefore everything points to Wings of a Dove being able to maintain these positions this time around.  He might not have given his running that day however and I would be confident in him running a better race this time round with William Carver taking 5lb off.  He had previously won impressively at Windsor.

Selections: Wings of a Dove & Night on Earth

4:10 – Class 5 Nursery Handicap

A very competitive Class 5 Nursery where a few of these could be very well handicapped.  The one who could be on a very good mark is Silent Queen trained by George Boughey who has made an excellent start to his training career.  She has been placed in all 3 of her runs yet only has a mark of 66.  The form of her last run has worked out well with the winner rated 81, the 3rd rated 74, the 4th rated 69, and the 5th rated 71.  She was 2nd that day comfortably beating the rest of the field.  On that form she could be chucked in here for very shrewd connections.  It can always play to side with the top weight in a nursery and that applies to Riffaa Wonder who has shown good form when making an encouraging debut at Glorious Goodwood before comfortably taking a Thirsk Novice race by 2 lengths.  She could potentially be quite smart and might be able to defy top weight here.  It’s also hard to ignore the Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley combination at the moment and they team up here with Holwah who stepped up on her debut effort with a good 3rd behind Zoetic and Miss Jingles who have more than franked the form since (Listed Winner and Glorious Goodwood Winner).  Her handicap debut was below that standard when third, but again this form has been franked and she can run another good race here off a mark of 72.

Selections: Silent Queen, Riffaa Wonder & Holwah

4:45 – Class 5 Handicap

Redemptive looks like he will be very hard to beat here for George Boughey who has excelled in taking in handicappers and improving them.  Redemptive seems no exception to this as he bolted up at Yarmouth last time on the back of some encouraging efforts previously.  He has a 5lb penalty here but that should not stop him with William Buick booked.  This looks a weaker race than he contested last time and I expect him to take a lot of beating.  He’s Our Star could potentially provide the biggest danger.  He ran well last time over 10 furlongs only beaten half a length.  His better form has been over shorter, where he won over 7 furlongs last year off 6lb higher. A repeat of that run could see him chase home Redemptive.

Selections: Redemptive & He’s Our Star
