Kelso betting tips

13.25 – Handicap Hurdle – 2m

A weak-looking race to start proceedings over at Kelso. IOIANI was a good winner last autumn and has posted some creditable efforts on the flat since. He’s a C&D winner and should play a leading role.

KAIZER was rated in the mid 120s at the start of the year and was fourth here last time in a much stronger event. He’s back on a workable mark and Brian Hughes has been booked to ride.

PLAYA BLANCA returns from a long absence, but was in terrific form earlier this year that evidently saw him complete a hat-trick of wins and therefore he can’t be discounted in the opener.

Selections: IOIANI, KAIZER, PLAYA BLANCA

14.00 – Handicap Hurdle – 2m

This looks a tight enough event, but I’m going side with the top-weight HALF BOLLY. He won a competitive Juvenile Hurdle (class 2) one year ago on hurdles debut before finishing a respectable fifth in a listed juvenile hurdle next time. He’s only run the once over hurdles since but brings the best form to the table and Henry Brooke is a significant jockey booking.

DANCEWITHTHEWIND can be feared most having shaped well on both visits to this track previously over further and looks sure to appreciate the ground. The two-mile trip might be short enough for him but Richard Johnson is likely to ride him prominently and his assured stamina is likely to come into play at the business end this afternoon.

Selections: HALF BOLLY, DANCEWITHTHEWIND

14.30 – Handicap Chase – 3m2f

PLANTAGENET ran a lovely race to finish third on his seasonal debut last month and has arguably been running in better quality races than this. He drops down in class with cheek-pieces applied and remains on a mark he’s more than capable of exploiting.

SHANROE STREET couldn’t reel-in Damiens Dilemma at Hexham last month but this distance should suit better and he has to come under some consideration under Derek Fox, who is one of the best jockeys around.

Selections: PLANTAGENET, SHANROE STREET

15.00 – Novice Hurdle – 2m

LINELEE KING looks an above-average recruit to hurdling. Having won two bumper races impressively, he was last seen competing in the champion bumper at Cheltenham. He’s been found a good opportunity here by Olly Murphy for his hurdling debut and his class should prove decisive under the former champion Richard Johnson.

Selections: LINELEE KING

15.30 – Handicap Chase – 2m1f

AYE RIGHT has to be the most solid choice in this race. He was a smart hurdler, and confirmed his chase-debut promise when winning the match race at Newcastle. He adores this track with course form figures under three-miles reading 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1. He was far from disgraced when fifth in the highly-competitive RSA at the Cheltenham Festival and remains unexposed in this sphere with a good record when fresh.

The veteran SIMPLY NED isn’t getting any younger but he is still capable of producing high-class form. His last victory was at Grade One level for which he beat Footpad and he’s made this very race at Kelso his own. Amazingly, the thirteen-year-old has ran in the race six times that has dated back to 2014 with form figures reading 1, 1, 2, 2, 4, 4. I strongly suspect Nicky Richards has trained him for this race again and it’s appealing to see Brian Hughes back on board. He has ideal conditions and looks too big of a price to overlook here given his fantastic record.

Selections: AYE RIGHT, SIMPLY NED

16.00 – Handicap Chase – 2m7f

DUNDRUM WOOD didn’t quite live up to expectations over hurdles having cost £270,000 but he did manage to get his head in front and is the type to make a much better chaser. The ground will be ideal and he’s taken to make a successful chasing debut for Olly Murphy’s team at the main expense of His Dream.

Selections: DUNDRUM WOOD
