BETTER AND BETTER ran well to finish third at Ascot last time out despite the race not being run to suit and his debut second is a smart piece of form. He’s fancied to make an impact, as is JAN STEEN, who finished third in a competitive race at York on his penultimate start.

Clive Cox has a good record at this course and there’s a chance that debutant AUTHENTIC CHARM will get involved. Cieren Fallon and William Haggas boast a fine strike-eater when combined at the track though, so HARDY’S HERO has to be respected.

This looks like a wide-open contest, but SECRET MISTRAL is a two-time C&D winner and has been in very good form this year. His latest third at Chester was another solid effort in defeat, so he’s very much respected. COPPER KNIGHT has done very little wrong on every start this year, winning twice and placing four times from six starts and should give another good account of himself.

MOLLIE FOSTER is a course winner and recently ran really well when third in a higher grade race at Newbury last month. Down in grade, off a pound lower mark, I think she’s a major player for Ed Walker, who does well at this course. I’ll also include DEFINITIVE, who finished a solid fourth last time out.

18.15 Sky Bet, For The Fans Handicap

WOLFPACK was a good winner at Thirsk last time out and appears to have been let in lightly on handicap debut off a mark of 83. He should have plenty more to come. LEADENHALL won his sole previous C&D start and wasn’t disgraced when fourth under a big weight when last seen.
