13.15 – Langtons Kilkenny Handicap Hurdle (80-102) – 2m

This is an open affair in which plenty of the runners have a squeak. Firstly, BIG DEBATES has to be considered on the back of a promising chase run and switches back to hurdles on handicap debut. He looks competitive on form.

DJASEK looks extremely well-handicapped after a very good second 25 days ago to a horse rated 116. In the context of this event, the highest-rated runner on this occasion is 101, which is a fundamental reason to suggest he can go one better.

Of the rest, PANI PROBLEM showed glimpses of promise in three runs thus far, particularly on debut at this track on similar ground and could get involved.

Selections: BIG DEBATES, DJASEK, PANI PROBLEM

13.45 – Connolly’s RED MILLS Irish EBF Ladies Auction Maiden Hurdle – 2m4f

The Henry De Bromhead-trained FANGIO DE VASSY shaped well when fifth in a big-field Leopardstown novice on hurdling debut and is selected to build on that for his in-form yard.

SONG OF EARTH arrives in rude health following on from a good second on heavy ground 31 days ago and is firmly in the mix on the basis of that form alone.

Selections: FANGIO DE VASSY, SONG OF EARTH

14.20 – John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle (Grade 2) – 3m

The Galmoy Hurdle looks an intriguing renewal and a chance is taken on DIOL KER, who took the scalp of RSA favourite Monkfish last season on similar ground (heavy). He lacked conviction over his fences the next three times but enjoyed the return to the smaller obstacles when gamely fending off a useful sort last time and, with conditions and the step-up in trip sure to suit, he’s a massive each-way player.

SCARPETA ran an eye-catching race when second to stable companion Bachasson last time out under similar-foot conditions, shaping as though she retained ability. She kept strong company back in 2018/19, particularly at graded-level and is suited to taxing ground.

SAMS PROFILE would have an each-way chance based on historical form having finished runner-up twice at Grade-1 level, alongside placing fifth in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. He posted a respectable third-place effort behind Monkfish in a beginners’ chase last time and looks sure to get involved back over timber.

Selections: DIOL KER, SCARPETA, SAMS PROFILE

14.50 – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (80-123)

FAIRYHILL RUN ticks plenty of boxes for this wide-open handicap hurdle and her latest second at Cork 26 days ago looks the best piece of form on offer. The first and second are rated 128 and 135 respectively, and she will take some beating if staging a repeat against today’s easier opposition.

The subject of market support almost paid off for PAIRC NA NGAEL who was a close-up second in December and is clearly seen to best effect on heavy ground. He’s been raised 4Ib as a result but that shouldn’t stop him from making another bold bid.

Selections: FAIRYHILL RUN, PAIRC NA NGAEL

15.25 – Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase (Grade A) – 3m1f

The Thyestes Handicap Chase is the feature of the day and, as ever, has attracted a really strong field of 18-runners. Willie Mullins goes in search of a monumental sixth win in this race since 2012 as he saddles five in the event. The one I like of the five is the Rich Ricci-owned BRAHMA BULL who is now tackling a handicap for the first time.

He remains a lightly-raced ten-year-old who has demonstrated a high level of form over fences, including when a good seven-length second to Gold Cup hopeful Minella Indo in a Grade-2 on his reappearance back in November. Unfortunately, he unseated his rider early on at Tramore last time behind Al Boum Photo but looks interesting from an opening mark of 151. He looks the perfect project for this race.

TEN TEN shaped nicely on hurdle reappearance but failed to build on that when only twelfth over Christmas in the Paddy Power Chase looking a non-stayer. However, if he’s able to last home this time around, he shouldn’t be far away.

DISCORDANTLY has valuable course-winning form and having finished a gusty fourth in the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase on his penultimate outing. He looked set to go well in the Paddy Power, only to make a bad mistake two out which cost him plenty of momentum and has a chance of making amends here.

Selections: BRAHMA BULL, TEN TEN, DISCORDANTLY

16.00 – Daly Farrell Chartered Accountants Beginners Chase – 2m

This looks between the three market leaders, with preference for REBEL GOLD, who looks the solid option. His experience over fences will stand him in good stead and his best third place behind Asterion Forlonge and Conflated in a beginners’ chase is undoubtedly the best form available. He warmed up for this event with a decent effort over hurdles last time and has to be taken seriously under suitable conditions.

Selections: REBEL GOLD
