Who is the fastest Premier League player?

The Premier League is one of the most physically demanding leagues in world football. Players must be in peak condition to keep up with the tempo in England’s top flight and teams are fitter, stronger and quicker than ever. Pace is an incredibly valuable asset in the Premier League. Whether playing in a low block and attacking on the counter or playing a possession-based game and looking to run in behind, speed is an essential attribute for Premier League players in several positions. So who is the fastest Premier League player? Based on speeds clocked last season, we look at the fastest Premier League players.

Who is the fastest Premier League player?

5 – Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)

Gone are the days of largely immobile, hard-tackling full-backs. The modern-day iteration of the left and right back positions are arguably the most physically draining on the pitch. Players are expected to play as wing-backs, defending, carrying the ball forward, overlapping, delivering crosses, and chipping in with goals. This position requires boundless energy and unbelievable athleticism. Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a man who possesses both these traits. Not only is Wan-Bissaka one of the best right-backs in the world, he is also one of the fastest. With a top speed of 23.38mph last season, he is one of the quickest players in the Premier League.

4 – Trézéguet (Aston Villa)

Trézéguet played an important role in Aston Villa’s great escape last season. The midfielder scored crucial goals against Crystal Palace and Arsenal to help guide the villains to a 17th place finish, just one point above Bournemouth. Along with goals, Trézéguet brings bags of pace to the side, with a top speed of 23.37mph. Signed last summer from Turkish Super Lig club Kasimpasa, the Egyptian international endured a tough debut season under Dean Smith. With club captain Jack Grealish extending his contract, and the addition of striker Ollie Watkins, everyone at Villa Park will be hoping for a more comfortable season this time around.

3 – Mason Greenwood (Manchester United)

Last season saw the breakout of a superstar. Mason Greenwood burst onto the scene with an array of impressive performances, forcing his way into the underappreciated Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s starting lineup alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Thanks to his excellent finishing and ability with both feet, Greenwood is widely regarded as the best young player in the division. He is also one of the quickest Premier League players, with a massive top speed of 23.36mph. Greenwood will be looking to better his tally of 17 goals in all competitions last season, as Manchester United mount a challenge for the top 4.

2 – Adama Traore (Wolves)

No player in the Premier League has improved more than Adama Traore in recent seasons. The Wolves winger has added precise delivery and goalscoring to his game, making him one of the best wide men in the division. Traore’s strength and pace are often talked about, and for good reason; he was the second quickest player to grace a Premier League pitch last term, clocking in at 23.48mph. Transfer rumours began swirling around Adama Traore this summer, with Manchester City and Liverpool reportedly interested. No deal has yet been completed, with Wolves thought to be demanding a massive £70m for their star man.

1 – Kyle Walker (Manchester City)

Despite celebrating his 30th birthday earlier this year, Manchester City wing-back Kyle Walker was the fastest Premier League player last season. Walker hit his top speed of 23.49mph in a match against Chelsea in June. Famed for his overlapping runs, the former Spurs man has been a mainstay in the Manchester City defense since signing in 2017. Contracted until 2024, the England wing-back will be hoping to improve on last seasons 10 clean sheets, as Pep Guardiola’s men attempt to wrestle the Premier League title away from Liverpool. The Sky Blues got their campaign off to the best possible start, with a convincing 3-1 win over Wolves.
