Epsom Place 6 Preview | 6th June
13.30 Betfred Tattenham Corner Stakes (Group 3)
NEVER SO BRAVE is a Group 1 winner that should appreciate this lower level. He will be sharper from his return in a Group 2 event and should relish the return to this shorter distance, so he’s the one to beat. As an alternative, I’ll cover him with ALCANTOR, who isn’t far behind on ratings and appears as the main danger.
Tips: NEVER SO BRAVE & ALCANTOR
14.05 Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3)
PACIFIC MISSION was a little below form on her reappearance but she probably needed that run and her previous second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf is a strong piece of form. Getting chunks of weight from her elders, I can see her going very close. PINA SONATA can also run a good race.
Tips: PACIFIC MISSION & PINA SONATA
14.40 Coolmore Coronation Cup (Group 1)
CALANDAGAN was beaten by Jan Brueghel in this race last year but I’m expecting the form to be turned around this time if the rain doesn’t materialise. The French raider has gone from strength-to-strength since, winning all four starts and will be fit after his comeback win in the Sheema Classic. LAMBOURN got back to winning ways last time out and given he’s a Derby winner, I think he’s slightly overpriced.
Tips: CALANDAGAN & LAMBOURN
15.15 Betfred ‘Dash’ Handicap (Heritage Handicap)
ECLAIRAGE has plenty of speed and could be very well suited to the demands of this race. She knows how to win and will have come on plenty from her narrow comeback second at Navan. I think she will be tough to catch, while VINTAGE CLARETS and DYONISOS are handicapped to have a say in the matter if producing their best.
Tips: ECLAIRAGE, VINTAGE CLARETS & DYONISOS
16.00 Betfred Derby (Group 1)
In the main event, ITEM can hopefully provide Colin Keane with a big-race double. This unbeaten son of Frankel made a fantastic reappearance in the Dante Stakes at York, winning by more than two lengths and is bound to improve a ton for that return.
Tips: ITEM
16.40 Cherryfield (Croydon) Lester Piggott Handicap
This is very competitive but PENDELLA has been solid so far in her career and looks poised to be thereabouts off a low weight, while YORK TOWER is another with leading claims. She’s placed on all three starts and could be well treated on handicap debut with no weight on her back.
Tips: PENDELLA & YORK TOWER
