Deportivo v Valencia

It’s 17th v 3rd at The Riazor and everything points to Valencia showing why they’re on track for a Champions League return at the end of the season.

Only runaway leaders Barcelona and Celta Vigo have scored more away goals (19) than Valencia (17) although Los Che do have a tendency to let goals in too when they travel.

Deportivo have suffered five defeats out of nine at home and were beaten 3-1 by Celta Vigo the last time they played in front of their own fans before the winter break.

Valencia have confidence after two recent home wins (4-0 and 2-1) so an away win with both teams scoring is probably the sweet spot.

Prediction:  1-1, 1-2, 1-3

Levante v Celta Vigo

As mentioned above, Celta Vigo are prolific on the road and their away games are the place to be for goals. There’s been 34 of them in nine matches, 19 for and 15 against.

Levante are scrapping away in 16th spot, just three points above the relegation zone, and have a home record of two wins, four draws and four defeats. They’ve conceded 15 times in those 10 games.

Celta took a bit of a thumping away to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night but, hey. They’d drawn the first leg at least and also held Real Madrid 2-2 in La Liga last Sunday.

It looks a game likely to have a few goals.

Prediction: Other Draw, 1-2, 1-3

St Etienne v Toulouse

This pair are languishing near the bottom of the table with St Etienne 16th and Toulouse one place below them.

St Etienne have been on a dreadful run. They went into the winter break with no wins in 11 although a 2-0 home victory over Nimes in the French Cup last week will have lifted spirits.

Toulouse have the worst away record in the division although they have registered in five of their last six road trips in the top flight.

Neither can be trusted though so let’s have a couple of scoring draws in there.

Prediction: 2-1, 1-1, Other Draw

Liverpool v Man City

What a way to finish off!

In theory, it looks a goal-fest but let’s not forget that Liverpool won the last Anfield clash against City 1-0 when both managers were more cautious than normal.

City’s unbeaten record is definitely in danger although they certainly won’t mind Liverpool being without Philippe Coutinho, who was a regular scorer against them.

A draw would be no disaster for either side and City are unlikely to find the huge gaps in the Liverpool defence that they did when winning 5-0 at the Etihad after Sadio Mane was sent off. It could go either way.

Prediction: 2-1, 1-1, 1-2
