Cheltenham Win 6 Preview | 14th March
13.20pm – JCB Triumph Hurdle
LULAMBA was extremely impressive on his stable debut at Ascot, and with more to come, he could add to Nicky Henderson’s excellent record in the race. EAST INDIA DOCK & HELLO NEIGHBOUR are also unbeaten in this sphere and warrant respect. MONDO MAN could run well if he can settle a touch better, while LARZAC is an interesting outsider. He was unlucky on debut behind a top-class prospect in France and has a stronger chance than his odds suggest.
Tips: LULAMBA, EAST INDIA DOCK, HELLO NEIGHBOUR, LARZAC & MONDO MAN
14.00pm – William Hill County Handicap Hurdle
KARGESE has two Grade 1 wins under her belt and will be fitter after her comeback run at Ascot. She could be chucked in here off a mark of 141 on handicap debut and will be hard to beat. HANSARD finished third behind this week’s Champion Hurdle 1-2 at Wincanton and will relish a strong pace. DADDY LONG LEGS, MCLAUREY, last year’s winner ABSURDE and last year’s Boodles winner LARK IN THE MORNIN also go on my ticket.
Tips: KARGESE, HANSARD, DADDY LONG LEGS, MCLAUREY, ABSURDE & LARK IN THE MORNIN
14.40pm – Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase
DINOBLUE would have won this race last year if the ground was a bit better and she didn’t concede first run to the winner. She’s looked as good as ever this season and can make it fourth time lucky at the fixture. BRIDES HILL will bounce off today’s ground and represents a stable who is having an excellent week.
Tips: DINOBLUE & BRIDES HILL
15.20pm – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
A strong pace should play to the strengths of THE BIG WESTERNER, who won a Grade 2 contest last time out off a modest pace. Her trainer bagged a double yesterday and she has been saved for this race, so she ought to run very well. DERRYHASSEN PADDY looks tailor-made for this course and his trainer, Lucinda Russell, is confident of a bold performance from her rising star. He has so much more to offer and I’m convinced he will be hard to topple.
Tips: THE BIG WESTERNER & DERRYHASSEN PADDY
16.00pm – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase
History awaits! GALOPIN DES CHAMPS can become only the second horse to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup three times in a row. He is head and shoulders above today’s field on form and class, and can register a fourth Cheltenham Festival success. He is my banker on the ticket.
Tips: GALOPIN DES CHAMPS
16.40pm – St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase
ANGELS DAWN won the Kim Muir over C&D in 2023 and would have made the frame in last year’s renewal without falling at the second last. She has been in good form in the points this year and given she gets weight from the rest and is the clear top rated, I think she should be a much clearer favourite. PLAN OF ATTACK has placed twice at the Festival in the past and is massively overpriced, while FAIRLY FAMOUS and SHEARER are others to note.
Tips: ANGELS DAWN, PLAN OF ATTACK, FAIRLY FAMOUS & SHEARER
