Cheltenham Win 6 Preview | 14th December
12.10 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle
QUANTOCK HILLS achieved a good level of form in France with a second place on hurdle debut before going one better next time and has translated that form to the UK, with a second at Wetherby before easily scoring at Fontwell. With more to come, he’s a major player, while Irish raider TOTAL LOOK, who impressed on his hurdle debut at Navan, must be respected.
Tips: QUANTOCK HILLS, TOTAL LOOK
12.40 Josh Wyke Birthday Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
PEAKY BOY is (3-3 unbeaten at Cheltenham and made a successful chase/seasonal debut here last time out. He’s up in grade and trip but is the one to beat. Impressive Aintree winner HAITI COULEURS and the well-handicapped HILLCREST are others to consider in an extremely competitive contest.
Tips: PEAKY BOY, HAITI COULEURS, HILLCREST
13.13 Quintessentially Mares’ Handicap Chase
COCO MADEMOISELLE came close to making a succession chase debut when narrowly denied by the race-fit Hometown Boy, who is rated in the 140s. The way she travelled into that race was eye-catching, and she’s sure to have come on plenty for the run, so off an opening handicap mark of 122, she has every chance of going one place better. The longest traveller on the card, SIMILAR STORY, cannot be discounted.
Tips: COCO MADEMOISELLE, SIMILAR STORY
13.50 Nyetimber December Gold Cup Handicap Chase
LE PATRON is unbeaten in three handicap chase starts and resumed winning ways with an emphatic success at Newbury last time out. This Grade 1 winner must be given the utmost respect, while last year’s fourth, GRANDEUR D’AME, was last seen beating the 1-2 from Paddy Power Gold Cup at Chepstow. He can go well off a tiny weight, while Dan Skelton’s MADARA can also play a part in the outcome.
Tips: LE PATRON, GRANDEUR D’AME, MADARA
14.25 BetMGM Handicap Chase
MASTER CHEWY fell in last weekend’s Tingle Creek, but this is a significant ease in grade, and his neck second in the Grade 1 Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree is the best form on offer. He can gain a much-deserved success by conceding weight all round. I’ll cover LIBBERTY HUNTER just in case, but the former is the main choice.
Tips: MASTER CHEWY, LIBBERTY HUNTER
15.00 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle
CLONDAW GENERAL made an impressive start to his career when winning comfortably on his hurdle debut at Worcester, and with that experience under his belt, he should end up being the biggest danger to the prolific SKYJACK HIJACK. The latter has been on a warpath in recent months, and although he will find this tougher, it would be foolish to rule him out of the ticket.
Tips: CLONDAW GENERAL, SKYJACK HIJACK
