Cartmel Place 6 Preview | 20th July
13.42 Cumbria Grand Maiden Hurdle
The opener is interesting. GAMBINO just about shades the verdict. I thought he shaped very promisingly when third on his hurdles debut at Newbury and is expected to improve a chunk from that experience. He’s undergone wind surgery since his run in the Queen’s Cup at Musselburgh and can run a big race.
Tips: GAMBINO
14.12 Molson Coors Handicap Hurdle
James Moffatt has two in this race that I want to side with. SECRET SECRET bids for a third consecutive win in this event and should make a bold effort to defend his crown. Stablemate DUSKY DAYS isn’t that well handicapped but knows his way around here and could run well.
Tips: SECRET SECRET & DUSKY DAYS
14.42 Molson Coors Handicap Hurdle (Div 2)
TOP FLIGHT CENTURY remains only 2lb above his last winning mark and comes into this event on the back of a good third at Perth. With his rider once again taking off a handy 5lb, I see no reason why another good showing isn’t firmly on the cards.
Tips: TOP FLIGHT CENTURY
15.12 Furness Building Society Handicap Hurdle
The one who could take some beating is RAFFLES NOBU. He capitalised on a reduced mark when scoring at Newton Abbot when last seen and must have every chance of going in again in this weak event despite the 7lb penalty.
Tips: RAFFLES NOBU
15.42 RF Miller & Co Handicap Chase
LE MALIN returns from a long absence, but bolted up when last seen, and could have a big say in the outcome if ready to roll. STRATAGEM has a good record at this course and wasn’t beaten far when third here last time out. He should give another good account of himself.
Tips: LE MALIN & STRATAGEM
16.12 Weatherbys Design & Print Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
DUNKERQUE has been in superb form of late, winning his last four outings, and the five-timer could beckon. He’s only gone up 3lb for winning easily last time out and is fancied to defy his big weight. Probably my strongest fancy on the card.
Tips: DUNKERQUE
