Bundesliga Pick 4 Preview

Borussia Dortmund v Freiburg (Saturday 14.30)

Borussia Dortmund have scored in all but one of their home games in the Bundesliga this season and for that reason, I can see them going on to put two or three past their opponents. But there is hope for Freiburg who have scored in each of their last four home games, so I’ve gone for BTTS to with Dortmund winning with a couple of safe scorelines: 1-1, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1.

The only thing that would perhaps stop Dortmund from picking up three points would be whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in the squad or not. The Gabon international has sat out of Dortmund’s previous two fixtures after being heavily linked with Arsenal. Without Aubameyang, Dortmund have failed to recreate their usual fluidity going forward.

Stuttgart v Schalke (Saturday 14.30)

For their impressive start to the Bundesliga campaign, Stuttgart have just one league win since November which instantly puts Schalke as the favourites. Hannes Wolf will be eager to get his side back to winning ways however, they face a Domenico Tedesco team that has scored in all but two of their away games this season. The arrival of Juventus’ Marko Pjaca adds firepower to their front line with the Croatian scoring on his first start.

However, for everything that suggests a Schalke win, Stuttgart have lost just two home games this season – against Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich – which is largely down to their solid defence. Guido Burgstaller and Co. will have to be on their a-game come Saturday but I fancy the strength of the Austrian and the pace and creativity of Pjaca and Amine Harit to be too strong for their opponents.

Both teams are strong defensively, so I imagine this would be under 2.5 goals with Schalke potentially edging it given their attacking threat: 1-1, 0-1, 0-2, 1-2.

Werder Bremen v Hertha Berlin (Saturday 17.30)

Apart from Werder Bremen putting two goals past Bayern Munich last weekend – albeit in a 4-2 defeat – neither of these teams have anything going for them. Hertha Berlin sit mid-table while their opponents are once again fighting against relegation. Bremen’s 16 goals (ranked third worst) this season is diabolical and if Max Kruse is out, then they don’t look like a side that’s capable of creating too much.

Hertha Berlin have won just two on the road this season which suggests this could be another low-scoring affair. Once again, under 2.5 goals would seem safe option with a potential 0-0 on the cards. The visitors could perhaps snatch a victory if Salomon Kalou and Davie Selke are on form which could see the game finish in their favour: 0-1, 0-0, 1-1, being a likely outcome.

Hannover v Wolfsburg (Sunday 17.00)

Hannover have certainly exceeded expectations this season. They’re not a flashy team by any means, but they are hard working and they do get results. Sitting just three points behind Borussia Dortmund and a place in Europe, Andre Breitenreiter’s side have lost just one game at home. Sunday however, sees a Wolfsburg side that so desperately need a win under Martin Schmidt.

The visitors have failed to score in their last three away games while failing to win in their last eight. With just two wins under his belt since September, Schmidt will certainly be feeling the pressure. However, they’re up against a relatively strong Hannover side. With nine Bundesliga goals this season, Niclas Fullkrug is an in-form striker that is once again likely to find the net. I do back Hannover to win with BTTS and so: 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 would put us in a good position for a good cash out.
