Goodwood Place 6 Preview | 1st August
13.50 Highclere Castle Gin Summer Handicap
Quite a tricky opener to solve. HOPEWELL ROCK always runs his race and wasn’t disgraced when sixth in the Duke Of Edinburgh. He could be competitive. NESTHORN was only a length behind the former last time out and seems a touch too big in the betting, while AERONAUTIC is only a pound higher than when third in this race last year and should again be thereabouts.
Tips: HOPEWELL ROCK, NESTHORN & AERONAUTIC
14.25 Coral Glorious Stakes (Group 3)
A really good, small select field. AL AASY goes for a hat-trick of wins in the race and his stable has an outstanding record in the race in general, so despite his quirks, the nine-year-old is the one to beat. GHOSTWRITER has been winless for a while but doesn’t have many miles on the clock and has the back-class to pose a serious threat. He will strip fitter from his comeback run at Royal Ascot and is probably the value in the race.
Tips: AL AASY & GHOSTWRITER
15.00 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes (Fillies & Mares’ Group 2)
DANIELLE is weighted to take this event. She’s tied in closely with a few of these but is in the form of her life and was a really good winner of a Group 3 event last time out. She is expected to make a serious impact. Her main danger is CONSENT, who is a Group 1 winner in France and is sure to be fitter from her run in May. She has the ability to go very close. I expect these two to be fighting out the finish.
Tips: DANIELLE & CONSENT
15.35 Coral Stewards’ Cup (Heritage Handicap)
SOLDIER’S TREE has been ultra-consistent so far in his career and ran a huge race in the Wokingham off top-weight on his penultimate start when third. His latest third in a Group 3 event was good, so with his rider taking off 5lb, he’s a key contender. ANNAF has placed at the highest level and went close on his penultimate outing at Newcastle. The seven-year-old is more than capable of being in the shake-up if delivering one of his best efforts. FERROUS is another well-handicapped at present and shouldn’t be discounted.
Tips: SOLDIER’S TREE, ANNAF & FERROUS
16.10 Phase Eight Handicap
IRONWILL registered a third career success when scoring at Newmarket last time out, beating PROUD NATION and I think both of them are difficult to split in this contest. Both should have a lot of improvement to come and I can see them running very well as their profiles fit the mould as a potential winner of this event.
Tips: IRONWILL & PROUD NATION
16.45 British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes
LEADLIGHT made a positive start to his career when fourth on debut at Leopardstown, where he did all of his best work at the finish, and this race should see him fare even better. REGENCY ROYAL is another sure-fire improver, as he only found one too good first time out at Chester and has leading claims.
Tips: LEADLIGHT & REGENCY ROYAL
