Ascot Win 6 Preview | 18th October

12.55 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

TRAWLERMAN has a fantastic record at this venue, and having won and finished third in the last two renewals, the Gold Cup winner can conclude his season on a high with four consecutive wins. The seven-year-old is sure to take plenty of beating and has conquered all before him this term.

If there’s one horse to beat him then it will be SWEET WILLIAM, who is remarkably consistent and was in front of him when second in this race last year. The recent Doncaster Cup success will give him plenty of confidence, too. I’m expecting the pair to provide us with another great.

Tips: TRAWLERMAN & SWEET WILLIAM

13.30 Qipco British Champions Day Two-Year-Old Conditions Stakes

WORDS OF TRUTH has continued to go from strength-to-strength and was a very good winner of the Group 2 Mill Reef when last seen. I think he’s going to be tough to beat.

Brussels has proven expensive to follow, so for a back-up option, I’ll stick DIVISION on the list. He’s won his last three starts and could well be up to this grade. He is an exciting prospect.

Tips: WORDS OF TRUTH & DIVISION

14.05 Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes

FLORA OF BERMUDA ran really well when third in this race last year and was unfortunate not to get much closer to Big Mojo in the Sprint Cup last time out when hampered. She finished well to take third and is fancied to finally get a first Group 1 win under her belt. She loves this course.

KING CUAN ought to have won the Renaissance last time out, having been forced to wait for a gap when travelling nicely before picking up strongly to finish a neck second. If things pan out better for him this time, I think he’s capable of having a say in the matter.

Tips: FLORA OF BERMUDA & KING CUAN

14.45 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes

WEMIGHTAKEDLONGWAY has been solid this year and backed up her penultimate second in the Irish Oaks with a fourth-place finish in the Prix de l’Opera in France.

The daughter of Australia should be a lot shorter in the betting on a line through Minnie Hauk with Estrange and Kalpana and is one of my strongest fancies on the card.

Tips: WEMIGHTAKEDLONGWAY

15.25 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

ROSALLION has been winless this season but has still performed to a high level in defeat and we know he likes it here, with two wins and a narrow second. He did well to finish as close as he did in the Prix du Moulin last time when conditions were softer than ideal, so he’s definitely one to consider.

NEVER SO BRAVE beat him at York though and is chasing the four-timer so he’s much respected. FIELD OF GOLD is better than he showed the last day and might be worth another chance. I’ll be surprised if one of these three doesn’t take this race.

Tips: ROSALLION, NEVER SO BRAVE & FIELD OF GOLD

16.05 Qipco Champion Stakes

A cracking renewal of the Champion Stakes. At big odds, don’t be put off ALMERIC, who has won both Listed starts impressively this year and is interesting stepping up in grade. He is sure to have more to come and isn’t a million miles away from those at the top of the market.

It would be foolish not to include OMBUDSMAN and DELACROIX. Both are top-class and have had excellent seasons. Last year’s second CALANDAGAN was a fantastic winner last time out and cannot be dismissed.

Tips: ALMERIC, OMBUDSMAN, DELACROIX & CALANDAGAN
