This race looks between THE LAST CLOUD and Breaking Point, with marginal preference for the former, who might just be the superior horse. He was unlucky not to score at Catterick back in February when a narrow second, but has taken his form to a different level since with back-to-back C&D victories. With plenty more to come, this progressive five-year-old can make it three on the bounce.

A chance is taken on CAPTAIN IVAN, who defied a 6lb higher mark on his last visit here. He does need to prove his stamina at this distance, but if he does stay, then he’s handicapped to have a say in the matter. Meanwhile SAINT ARVENS is a C&D winner off a mark of 124, so he’s another to consider off 112, with his rider offsetting a further 3lb. I think he’s a major contender.

MALANGEN ran a strange race last time out, where he looked to be going backwards turning for him before finding a second wind to stay on again and take the runner-up spot. However, this four-time course winner should appreciate the return to this longer distance and has leading claims in this weak-looking event.

The Gordon Elliott-trained THEMANINTHEBOOTS has become so well-handicapped now that he’s 7lb lower than when successful over C&D back in July of 2023. This dual course winner should be able to build on his latest second at Sligo, even after his 3lb rise for his latest run back on British soil.
