Asian Handicap is more of a ‘connoisseur’ betting format and, as the name suggests, it originated in Asia. But once you get the terminology sorted, it’s really as simple as a Home or Away bet.
‘Handicap’ in betting is a scoring advantage or disadvantage given to the sides before the match, which is then applied to the final result. An advantage is expressed with the “+” symbol, whereas a disadvantage is expressed with a “-” symbol.
The handicap for matches in Colossus pools is always expressed in .5 increments, which ensure the outcome is binary i.e. the draw is eliminated as a possible result. You will also notice that the Home / Away handicaps are always symmetrical because by definition a -x disadvantage for one side is a +x advantage for the other side.
For example, if you choose Chelsea (Home team) to beat Newcastle (Away team) with a -1.5 handicap, you need Chelsea to score at least 2 goals more than Newcastle for your selection to be a winner.
