Wimbledon Quarter-Final Tips: Konta to make light work of Strycova

British number one Johanna Konta is the star attraction for Tuesday’s four women’s quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

Konta fought back from a set down to see off two-time champion Petra Kvitova and next meets Barbara Strycova who also won from behind against Elise Mertens. If you agree with our tips, you can enter the Set Betting – Pick 4 pool.

Barbora Strycova vs Johanna Konta

Konta lost her only previous meeting with Strycova in Tokyo in 2017 but is the favourite to reach the semi-finals for the second time in three years.

The 19th seed is appearing in her fifth Grand Slam quarter-final and is happy with her performances during the fortnight.

She said: “I’m just really pleased with the level I’m playing, how I’m competing, how I’m really just trying to find a way in each match that I play. I’m playing very tough matches against very tough opponents.”

Strycova was 6-4 5-2 down against Mertens but hit back to secure a second Wimbledon quarter-final appearance, but this should be a match too far for the 33-year-old Czech.

Konta to win in straight sets looks the way to go here against an opponent who is still competing in the doubles and has a tough day ahead of her playing two matches.

Stat: Johanna Konta has won 93.6% of her service games at Wimbledon this week.

Verdict: Johanna Konta to beat Barbora Strycova 2-0

Alison Riske vs Serena Williams

Seven-time champion Williams admits the “rust is wearing off” after brushing aside Carla Suarez Navarro to reach the quarter-finals.

Williams is up against American countrywoman Riske whose aggressive style proved too much for world number one Ashleigh Barty in what was her fourth successive three-set duel.

Riske had a terrible Grand Slam record leading up to Wimbledon having fallen at the first hurdle in 16 of her 19 matches, but she looked impressive against the Australian.

Wimbledon is Riske’s “favourite Grand Slam” and she won a couple of grass-court tournaments in the build-up to it, but we suspect her all-or-nothing attitude will cost her in a three-set defeat to Williams.

Stat: All four of Alison Riske’s wins at Wimbledon have come in three sets.

Verdict: Serena Williams to beat Alison Riske 2-1

Simona Halep vs Zhang Shuai

Halep finds herself the highest-ranked player left in the women’s draw and the former world number one is the shortest favourite to reach the semi-finals at the expense of Zhang.

The Romanian finally ended the fairytale run of Coco Gauff with a 6-3 6-3 victory but a much stiffer contest awaits against the 30-year-old from China, who has won the last two encounters between the players.

Zhang had lost her previous five first-round ties at Wimbledon so it comes as a surprise to see her in the quarter-finals, but she can push Halep all the way on Tuesday.

However, this will be only her second Grand Slam quarter-final and so we expect Halep to come through in three sets.

Stat: Zhang Shuai is appearing in only her second Grand Slam quarter-final, but has beaten Simona Halep in her last two meetings.

Verdict: Simona Halep to beat Zhang Shuai 2-1
