Shrewd player lands £4,942 after making light of the Ballinrobe Win 6

The Ballinrobe Win 6 pool proved extremely fruitful for one player on Monday, as they converted £8 ticket into a fantastic £4,942 return.

In the first race, the player had selected Cliara and Scotts Honor, the top two in the betting. The favourite, Cliara, ran a disappointing race and finished fourth but Scotts Honor made amends by landing a comfortable victory to get the ticket off to a strong start.

The second race appeared to be a no-brainer. Xcite was the only selection taken and the 1/2 favourite made no mistake about romping to victory for an easy win.

Opting to swerve the jolly in the 18:50, the player selected the second favourite, Merited, instead. She contested the lead twice, once in the early stages and again halfway through. However she didn’t fully engage until the final furlong when she made her move and nabbed the player a third straight first place on their ticket.

The fourth contest was a tricky looking 14-runner handicap and, to give themselves a better chance, the player had made two selections. One of whom was the 7/2 favourite Ellaat, the other was the 13/2 poke Muntahez.

They proved to be a pair of shrewd picks with Muntahez finishing third and Ellaat justifying favouritism by claiming the win.

With four legs down and four wins in the bag, things were getting serious. The initial 1,036 units entering the pool had been whittled down to just 56.3 and big money was on the table.

The player selected 7/2 joint favourite Flicker Flame in the penultimate leg, instead of co-market leader Bercasa. It was another great shout, with Flicker Flame chasing the leaders for most of the race before moving to the front with a furlong remaining and never relinquishing that lead.

Just a single leg, a 12-runner handicap, stood between the player and glory. They picked 4/1 second favourite Sbraase as their hope and the early signs weren’t great as he spent much of the early running towards the rear of the field.

However, with a furlong remaining he moved into contention and burst into the lead within the final 100 yards, narrowly claimed victory and securing the player a mercurial sixth straight winner.

Despite three favourites and two second favourites winning, just two units remained in the pool which was a 99.8% reduction on those that had entered. The player landed a staggering return of £4,942.34, a 617x increase on their initial £8 stake ensuring the week got off to a fantastic start.
