@DaveTindallgolf‘s Race to the Premier League Player of the Year after Matchday 25.

1/ Virgil Van Dijk

(Last week: 1)

Liverpool have the best home defensive record. Liverpool have the best away defensive record. The reason is Virgil van Dijk and, what’s more, he’s shored up the previously wobbly Reds backline despite an ever-changing cast-list around him. Not his fault the Reds conceded in the 1-1 at West Ham and the giant Dutchman showed his versatility by easily seeing off any late aerial threat from Andy Carroll.

2/ Raheem Sterling

(Last week: 3)

Set up two for Sergio Aguero in the win over Arsenal and helped seal victory over Everton when coming on as a sub on Wednesday night. Those two wins have taken City back to the top of the table on goal difference. Sterling has 10 Premier League goals and 9 assists this season and has been the most consistent element of a City frontline which has banged in a league-high 68 goals.

3/ Mo Salah

(Last week: 2)

His hot-streak has come to a brief halt and, as a result, Liverpool have had to settle for draws instead of wins in their last two games. Many will make unfavourable comparisons with last season but the bottom line is that Salah has banged in 16 Premier League goals, topping the Golden Boot race, and contributed seven assists. Not bad really!

4/ Eden Hazard

(Last week: 4)

Chelsea are no one-man team but Hazard has scored five more Premier League goals and provided six more assists than any of his team-mates. The numbers? 12 and 10 respectively. The latest two goals came in another man-of-the-match display at home to Huddersfield, one from the spot, the other after a wonderful touch and finish from a narrow angle.

5/ Son Heung-Min

(Last week: N/A)

Spurs are back in this title race and the all-action South Korean is a huge reason why. He’d briefly slipped out of what’s become a fluid top 10 when going away on international duty but he returned with a key equaliser in the 2-1 victory over Watford and thumped home a late winner against Newcastle on Saturday. That’s 10 PL goals for the season and 9 in his last 10 in all comps.

6/ David Silva

(Last week: 6)

Provided the curling free-kick for Aymeric Laporte to head home Man City’s opener against Everton on Wednesday night, a result which returned his team to the summit. Silva continues to weave his magic in midfield and every team in the Premier League would love a player like him in their side.

7/ Leroy Sane

(Last week: 5)

Another City attacker in the top 10 and deservedly so. Sane perhaps didn’t have his best week but he’s made a huge contribution this term with eight goals and nine assists (ranked second). Just needs to find the back of the net twice more to match last season’s tally and we all thought his 2017/18 output was impressive.

8/ Sergio Aguero

(Last week: N/A)

The Argentine had fallen out of the top ten but followed up last week’s early goal against Newcastle by stuffing the match ball up his shirt after a hat-trick and man-of-the-match performance in the 3-1 win over Arsenal. That’s PL 14 goals for the season (two behind Golden Boot leader Salah) while Aguero has also racked up six assists. A reminder that we sometimes take him for granted.

9/ Paul Pogba

(Last week: 7)

It’s nine wins and a draw under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Frenchman is the chief reason for United’s renaissance. He’s netted six goals and five assists in that run, adding to the latter with a sublime pass to set up Marcus Rashford’s winner at Leicester, and his vastly improved form has taken the Red Devils up to fifth place.

10/ Sadio Mane

(Last week: 10)

Liverpool have looked rather flat in the last few games but Mane is the one to have provided the moments of spark, netting in the last two matches with expertly-taken goals in the 1-1 draws with Leicester and West Ham. That’s 11 Premier League goals now. Only five players have more.
