PREVIEWING THIS WEEK’S MILLIONAIRE

This week the Millionaire includes four FA Cup matches and a jackpot over £2.3 MILLION. We’ll preview the pool here.

Crystal Palace vs Man City- Sat, Jan 28 15:00

The Millionaire pool kicks off with Crystal Palace welcoming Manchester City. Long gone are the days when Selhurst Park was a fortress, as Palace have lost seven of their last nine home games. More concern for Big Sam is that they have managed only two home clean sheets this season.

Man City seem to have stuttered once more. A 4-0 hammering at Everton and throwing away a 2-0 lead to Spurs, have City fans seeing their season fizzle out. Twelve points off leaders Chelsea, has many ruling City out of the title race. The temptation for Guardiola must be to focus on domestic and European cup success.

I see City fielding a strong team and obtaining another comfortable FA cup win.

Prediction: 3-0

Burnley vs Bristol City- Sat, Jan 28 15:00

Premier League Burnley will play host to Championship Bristol City on Saturday. The Clarets came agonisingly close to drawing at the Emirates last week. But, Burnley at Turf Moor are a different team, with nine wins from thirteen home games this season. They have also conceded only one goal in their last four at home.

Bristol City will see this as welcome relief from a Championship relegation scrap. Burnley may be viewed as an obtainable Premier League scalp. For this reason, they will surely attack Burnley from the start.

This has home win written all over it. A good home team playing a side with one win in their last ten on the road. Bristol will get a goal though.

Prediction: 3-1

Southampton vs Arsenal- Sat, Jan 28 17:30

Saturday evening sees Arsenal visit St Mary’s in another all Premier League FA cup clash. Having breezed past Leicester last week, Saints fans will be hoping for a run of positive results. This is a side more than capable of delivering cup glory and should be eyeing the FA cup this season. They also shade Arsenal in recent matches, winning three of the last six meetings and losing two.

Arsenal were fortunate of Sanchez’s ice cold veins to win against Burnley last week. The win takes the Gunners to seven games unbeaten and second in the league. It will be interesting to see where Wenger’s priorities lie and the strength of side fielded for this one.

This will be an exciting game with good attacking football from both sides. Ultimately I can see a replay being needed here.

Prediction: Other Draw

Millwall vs Watford- Sun. Jan 29 12:00

League One Millwall play host to Premier League Watford. Millwall have already seen off Premier League opposition when they beat Bournemouth 3-0. The Lions are unbeaten in their last seven and will want to make their presence felt against Watford.

The Hornets have forgotten how to score recently, scoring six goals in their last eight games. This has caused a poor run of results, with only one win from these eight games. Fortunately, that win was in the last round of the FA Cup and so they are still in the competition.

This game doesn’t look the most exciting. A team struggling to score meeting a team that defend well. A goalless draw is on the cards for me.

Prediction: 0-0

Udinese vs AC Milan- Sun, Jan 9 14:00

Serie A plays host to the next leg of this week’s Millionaire pool. Udinese head into this game without a win from their last four games and scoring only one goal in these games. The most recent three of these four games have been lost by a single goal margin.

AC Milan come off the back of their five match unbeaten run being ended by Napoli last week. Milan currently sit 7th but only three points away from fourth place Lazio. They must keep picking up results if they are to climb up the table.

Udinese will make it four consecutive games lost by one goal as Milan return to winning ways.

Prediction: 0-1

Mainz vs Dortmund- Sun, Jan 29 16:30

The Millionaire pool closer comes from the German Bundesliga. Mainz welcomed the league back from a winter break with a goalless draw last week. They’ve lost only two home league games this season and have generally been free scoring at home. They now face a side who have won five of the last six meetings in Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund currently sit fourth and one point behind third place Hoffenheim. After several wins in winter break friendlies, Dortmund will look to push up the table. But, they have been inconsistent away in the league and will need to continue from their 2-1 away win last week.

I’m backing Dortmund to put pressure on the teams above them and claim another 2-1 away victory.

Prediction: 1-2
