Leeds vs. Aston Villa: Twitter reaction
Undoubtedly the most controversial football story of the weekend was the chaotic scenes that unfolded at Elland Road, in the Championship clash between Leeds and Aston Villa. As ever, Twitter was a joy to behold.
The trouble began in the 72nd minute after a challenge on Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia left him sprawled on the deck. Leeds forward Tyler Roberts looked as though he was going to put the ball out of the play to allow medical treatment and, accordingly, the Villa players stopped running. However, rather than putting the ball out, Roberts threaded it through to Mateusz Klich who ran on and scored.
A melee promptly ensued, with both sets of players coming together angrily as the supporters erupted. With the players pushing and shoving one another, Patrick Bamford ended up on the floor, claiming to have been struck in the face by Ahmed El Ghazi who was promptly sent off, though a replay showed that minimal contact was made
In further extraordinary scenes, Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, screamed at his players to allow Aston Villa to score unopposed from the restart. Whilst most of the players obliged, it seemed as though Pontus Jansson hadn’t got the memo, or was refusing to read it. The Swedish defender was only only player who attempted to tackle the Aston Villa players as they waltzed through to score.
The stadium wasn’t the only place that erupted, with Twitter also coming to life. Subbuteo were quick to recreate the opening goal in miniature form…

With a Leeds fan also gushing in his praise for the Chilean…
Whatever happens with the play-offs, Marcelo Bielsa has given us a team to be proud of again. The guy is a genius and to see Elland Road a sell-out week in week out is amazing.

One Villa fan was quick to point out that Leeds had been criticising Jack Grealish for going down easily…
So Leeds fans, you thought Grealish was a cheating scumbag for making the most of some challenges so what are you going to say about @Patrick_Bamford ? #avfc #lufc

And another suggested an alternate career path for him…
Bamford should sign for Hollyoaks. What an embarrassment

Pontus Jansson’s attempt to block the equaliser didn’t go down well. However, it left one Leeds fan dreaming of a potential partner for him…
Imagine a centre back partnership of Pontus Jansson and Tyrone Mings though #lufc #avfc

John Terry was seen on the sidelines squaring up to Marcelo Bielsa and his own contibution was noted…
John Terry has actually criticised Marcelo Bielsa for cheating…
– The same John Terry who shagged his own teammates wife.
– The same John Terry who was racist to Anton Ferdinand after losing to QPR.
– The same John Terry who kneed Alexis Sanchez in the back.#LUFC #MOT #Leeds— MK43 ? (@king_klich) 28 April 2019
And fans were quick to remember that it was Terry’s former teammate, Frank Lampard, who Bielsa upset earlier in the season after ‘Spygate’…
Bielsa has single handedly rattled Frank Lampard and John Terry in his first season in English football. Something we can all get behind
