Conscious Colossus

Colossus is getting Conscious

We are delighted to announce Conscious Colossus, a charitable initiative designed to target several areas of responsibility and covering a wide range of causes, including the advancement of sport within communities, responsible gambling education and animal welfare.

Colossus CCO, Eva Karagianni-Goel, commented: “As a company, we are fortunate to provide an inherently responsible product with a low impact ethos designed to minimise problem gambling. But for a while, we’ve also talked about taking a stance on what it means to be a responsible company in a far broader sense and this is how Conscious Colossus came to be. The scheme is about engaging with causes that are close to our hearts as citizens and humans, not just providers of a gambling product, and we are really excited to start this journey with 3 amazing charities that have impressed us with their spirit and impact.”

Our nominated charities are Alive and Kicking, the Greyhound Trust and YGAM. Conscious Colossus commits to support these charities through funding, team volunteer days, fundraisers as well as raising awareness of their objectives through our own channels.

November is Conscious Colossus month! Each week we will be focussing on a different charity to give our audience a greater understanding on what they are about. Stay tuned for some great content, including interviews with the CEO of each charity.

About Alive and Kicking

Founded in 2004, Alive and Kicking make beautiful durable sports balls across sub-Saharan Africa, delivering sport-based health awareness programmes and donating thousands of Alive and Kicking sports balls to young people.

They create ethical employment in communities across sub-Saharan Africa and improve the quality of life of disadvantaged young people by providing access to vital health education and sport.

Ben Sadler, CEO at Alive and Kicking: “Alive and Kicking’s mission is to use the power of sport to create ethical jobs, deliver vital health education and give thousands of people access to sport. Conscious Colossus is a charity initiative that seeks to harness the power of a multi-million pound industry in order to have a positive impact across the sporting community. Through that sporting link, Alive and Kicking will be able to use the support from Conscious Colossus to strengthen our impact further.”

About the Greyhound Trust

Since the Greyhound Trust was founded in 1975, we are proud to have found over 100,000 loving homes for greyhounds. Each year, we home approximately 4,000 retired racing greyhounds and help hundreds more through our network of more than 50 local branches.

We also play an active role in improving greyhound welfare and public appreciation of the breed through forums, events and public educational work.

Lisa Morris, CEO at the Greyhound Trust, added: “We are thrilled that Conscious Colossus have chosen to partner with the Greyhound Trust as one of their charities of choice. The Greyhound Trust homes between 3,500 and 4,000 retired greyhounds a year and helps them make the transition from athlete to pet, but we need to do more. Our vision is a day when all racing greyhounds retire to loving homes and are treated with compassion and kindness – and this partnership takes us a step closer to this vision.”

About YGAM

YGAM’s social purpose is to inform, educate, safeguard and build digital resilience amongst young and vulnerable people, helping them to make informed decisions and understand the consequences around gambling and gaming.

This is achieved through accredited education programmes and resources for anyone that works or cares for the young and/or vulnerable as well as working closely with universities and their students to raise awareness across campus.

Lesley Blackband, Head of Partnerships at YGAM: “YGAM was founded in 2014 to address the gap in education around gambling. Our workshops and awareness programmes provide the tools and resources to help young and vulnerable people make informed choices around gambling, gaming and their potential risks. Partnerships like the one with Conscious Colossus help us to expand our services and we hope that it will inspire more companies to support our work.”
