Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 – Four bargains to include

Everyone loves a bargain. But there is no better feeling than spotting one on Fantasy Football before the season starts and reaping the benefits before your friends catch on. It doesn’t take a footballing expert to know that the likes of Harry Kane, Bruno Fernandes, Virgil van Dijk and Ederson will be some of the highest-scoring players for their positions in the upcoming campaign, but what about these cheaper options? Here we look at the Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 and identify four bargains that your can’t miss out on.

Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 bargains

Kasper Schmeichel (£5m)

A goalkeeper is an easy source of points for any Fantasy Premier League manager, assuming you pick the right ones. The usual suspects of Ederson, Alisson and Edouard Mendy are all the most expensive options at £6m, but there is a bit of value in Leicester’s Kasper Schmeichel. The Danish shot-stopper is £5m this season and could produce healthy returns on a weekly basis.

Considering The Foxes do not have strength in depth between the sticks, assuming Schmeichel will play every game next season, is not unreasonable. The 34-year-old kept 10 clean sheets last season, which is made all the more impressive given how many injuries his team suffered in defence. Leicester have made several smart recruitments already in this transfer window and they look set for a big season, and Schmeichel will be expected to step up and lead by example in goal. He could be a very profitable purchase in the Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 campaign.

Elsewhere, Tim Krul (Norwich), Robert Sanchez (Brighton) and Daniel Bachmann (Watford) are all available for £4.5m and should be considered as backup options.

Tariq Lamptey (£4.5m)

Last season, Tariq Lamptey only played 11 games before his campaign was cut short by injury. However, he made a big impact for Brighton and looks set for a big season if he can stay fit. The right-wing back is now back in training for the Seagulls and if he returns in the same form as he was in during the last campaign then he should score big for a little price.

The former Chelsea player scored once and registered another assist last season and if it wasn’t for some poor finishing from his teammates in front of goal then he would’ve assisted a few more. Graham Potter’s free-flowing system brings out the best in Lamptey by allowing him to bomb forward and join the attack, and also press high due to the safety blanket of Brighton’s three disciplined centre-backs. By being so attacking yet also being registered on Fantasy Premier League as a defender, you get the best of both worlds with Lamptey as he can score clean sheet points but also gain points for his attacking output.

Max Aarons (Norwich), Jamal Lewis (Newcastle) and Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace) are three other English fullbacks available for £4.5m, and one of them along with Lamptey would be a smart pair of purchases for next to nothing.

Bryan Mbeumo (£5.5m)

Early Fantasy Premier League 2021/22 scouting has thrown up very little value amongst the midfielders, which is obviously a shame. Therefore, we have to look at those coming up from the Championship for a bargain. One player who could prove a bit of value is Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford, who rather surprisingly isn’t registered as a forward next season.

The 21-year-old is a versatile attacker who can play on both wings or down the middle. The Frenchman links up well with striker Ivan Toney, who will be crucial for Brentford this season, and can come short for passes or turn and run in behind to stretch teams. Mbeumo has an eye for goal and scored eight last season, but was more of a provider with 10 assists, if he can rack up tally’s like that in the Premier League then he won’t be worth £5.5m at the end of the season.

Other cheap options include Yves Bissouma (Brighton), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa) and Isaac Hayden (Newcastle) who are all priced at £4.5m, though that trio very rarely contribute in the final third.

Teemu Pukki (£6m)

Rather than offering up a player that could sit on the bench all season, let’s look at a guaranteed starter: Teemu Pukki. The Finnish forward has been Norwich’s main goalscorer since he arrived in the Midlands three seasons ago, scoring 67 goals in 126 appearances – that includes 11 goals in 33 appearances in the Canaries’ 2019/20 Premier League season.

Pukki is an out and out target man; he is strong, powerful and uses his body well to hold the ball up and bring his teammates into play. Although not the fastest, the 31-year-old always manages to get himself into the box when required, latching on to the end of crosses and tucking away goalmouth scrambles. If Norwich are to solidifying themselves as a Premier League side rather than yo-yoing between the top-flight and the Championship then they will need to get the very best out of Pukki, especially now that Emiliano Buendia has signed for Aston Villa.

Away from Pukki, there are very few players for a cheap price that are guaranteed starters during the 2021/22 Fantasy Premier Legaue season. Those who could offer value though are not regulars are Ashley Barnes (Burnley), Jean-Phillippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) and Troy Deeney (Watford) for £5.5m.
