Ask the Captains: 2020/21 season predictions

Who will win the 2020/21 Premier League?

GP: It has to be Man City who have strengthened their squad while Liverpool have stood still.

OS: Manchester City. I’m expecting Pep to address City’s lack of comeback ability when going behind, that’s the only thing they lack against Liverpool.

GD: I believe Liverpool will win the EPL again this year, despite Manchester City being favourites.

GT: I expect Man City to win the league as they were far from their best last time and definitely have something to prove this year.

Who will make up the rest of the top four?

GP: Liverpool will come second, Chelsea third and United fourth. Chelsea and United have made good signings but won’t have enough experience to finish above Liverpool.

OS: Liverpool second, Chelsea third and United fourth. It’s still a two horse race. Expect Chelsea to be clear of the pack in third with United edged into fourth. The battle for fourth could be close though.

GD: I believe the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places will go to Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea in that order.

GT: Liverpool, then Chelsea, then Man United. I expect these three sides to cruise into the remaining places to qualify for the Champions League due to good recruitment.

Which three will lose the Premier League relegation battle?

GP: Fulham, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. All are shaky at the back and won’t score enough goals to keep them up.

OS: West brom, Fulham and Newcastle. I don’t believe West Brom have enough goals in them this year. Fulham have never been able to defend in the Premier League. I like Newcastle, I love their real fans but I fear they’re in trouble this year.

GD: I think we will lose Burnley this time with question marks over Sean Dyche’s future. West Brom and Fulham will head straight back down.

GT: This is a tough one to call as so many teams have the potential to go down but I’ll go for Fulham, Brighton and West Brom.

Name the Golden Boot winner
GP: Timo Werner is a natural goalscorer and should have enough creativity behind him to provide him with the chances.

OS: The Golden Boot winner usually plays for a side who finish in the top four. United lack an out-and-out striker, City have Aguero but he’s injury prone and gets replaced a lot by Jesus these days. Liverpool have a front three who seem to share goals so I think the value lies in Timo Werner in an attacking chelsea side.

GD: Chelsea new boy Timo Werner for the golden boot this season.

GT: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has proven year after year what a top striker he is. I think Arsenal will have a much improved campaign this time, with Aubameyang being the main man.

Best signing of the season
GP: As I’ve named him the Golden Boot winner it’s got to be Werner again.

OS: Kai Havertz, without a doubt. One of Europe’s best young players, so versatile can play anywhere in midfield and attack,  deceptively fast and a very intelligent footballer.

GD: It’s got to be Timo Werner again if he’s winning the Golden Boot as well.

GT: Timo Werner is fantastic signing for Chelsea and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the Premier League. I think he will be a huge asset to Chelsea next season.

Worst signing of the season
GP: I’m going for Rodrigo. He’s already flopped once in the Premier League with Bolton so I’m expecting the same again.

OS: Nathan Ake at 40 million to Manchester City. Lots disagree with my opinion on Ake but I don’t believe he is of the quality required to play for such a big team.

GD: I can’t see the benefits of Donny Van De Beek for Manchester United.

GT: He’s been a great player for PSG over the last few years but I think Thiago Silva may struggle to adapt to Premier League football.

Which manager will lose the sack race?
GP: It’s got to be David Moyes. West Ham have a trigger-happy board and there are already murmurs of discontent.

OS: I think David Moyes at West Ham at big odds is a good shout.

GD: Sean Dyche might struggle to remain in charge and could be the first manager to go.

GT: Slaven Bilic has done a fantastic job getting WBA back up. I think it may be a difficult start to the season though and, if WBA are in a bad position come November, I think he may be the first manager out.

Who will win the 2020/21 FA Cup?
GP: Mourinho will target the cup competitions this year and I can see him delivering Spurs the FA Cup or the League Cup.

OS: Either Man City or Chelsea. Chelsea always go for the FA cup and any silverware for Frank is a must this season. City will strongly challenge for this too as Pep needs a return for the board.

GD: I would plump for Arsenal to win the FA Cup again, they love this competition.

GT: Chelsea have had a fantastic transfer window, which was badly needed. I really expect them to push for the title and they could land the FA Cup as well.

Who will win the 2020/21 Champions League?
GP: I can see Bayern Munich retaining the title again this season. They are a country mile ahead of everyone else at the moment.

OS: It’s hard to oppose Bayern but I will go with Real Madrid. The transfer market is open another month and they could be busy. Right now nobody is considering them. Let’s see how this ages.

GD: I can’t see past Bayern Munich again for the Champions League as they are strengthening an already formidable squad

GT: Bayern Munich won it last year with what seemed incredible ease. With the addition of Leroy Sane I think their team is too strong not to win it again.

And finally, who will be the Euro 2020 champions?

GP: I think France. A great, young squad with the experience of already winning a major competition.

OS: No way should England be favourites, Italy offer a good value bet at great odds and should be shorter in my opinion, Spain could challenge too.

GD: France to win Euro 2020 after landing the World Cup in 2018.

GT: As much as I’d like to say England, I think France’s quality and depth could be too much for any other European side.
