To be fair to the Scot, he had the impossible job of taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson and was always going to struggle at Old Trafford. For Mourinho, many of these players played key roles for a dominant Chelsea side last season.<\/p>\n
So, just what has gone wrong at Stamford Bridge? If truth be told, nobody has the foggiest. Off-field distractions, such as the Eva Carneiro conflict, didn\u2019t help Mourinho\u2019s cause in the early stages of the season but we are now in December. Those excuses simply will not and should not stick with Chelsea\u2019s ardent supporters.<\/p>\n
The Portuguese has made plenty of suspect calls throughout the campaign and if nothing else, this shows just how much Mourinho is feeling the pressure this season. He has chopped and changed his team on a far too regular basis. Yes, fresh legs are useful but continuity and trust is crucial to a team\u2019s work ethic and confidence.<\/p>\n
Mourinho has shattered both of those. Last season, Chelsea worked hard off the ball but their players aren\u2019t showing the same levels of commitment this season. The likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard, who were so often industrious last year, are wasteful in possession and lethargic when tracking back.<\/p>\n
Chelsea\u2019s supporters have been split on their manager for quite a while now but defeat to Leicester on Monday night may convince those who are pro-Mourinho to reconsider their views. Even at 2-1 down, the Blues didn\u2019t really look convincing in attack and on another night, Leicester may have scored that all-important third goal to kick the game off.<\/p>\n
Many will believe that Mourinho can turn it around, however there are plenty of signs that suggest his time is up. Chelsea have now lost five of their last seven games, scoring just three goals in the process. Their defence, which has been so consistent for many years, has conceded nine goals during the same period \u2013 an incredible statistic.<\/p>\n
But perhaps the worst stat of all \u2013 Chelsea have won just one match away from Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this season. Mourinho is failing to inspire, motivate and convince his side that they are better than this and it looks as though he has lost control of the dressing room. The Portuguese cuts a beleaguered figure on the touchline and Mou may well already know that his time is set to be cut short at Stamford Bridge in the near future.<\/p>\n
Roman Abramovich isn\u2019t normally a patient man, but he\u2019s been nothing but lenient towards Mourinho this season. The Chelsea owner has given the Portuguese plenty of chances but now, that tolerance must come to an end. If Abramovich doesn\u2019t sack him now, the season will become unsalvageable and relegation, which was deemed unthinkable at the beginning of the campaign, could be a genuine possibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
