It\u2019s the 1000 Guineas this weekend at Newmarket, as some of the best fillies in training take centre-stage.<\/p>\n

And in preparation for Sunday\u2019s big race, we\u2019ve taken a look back at some of the best ever 1000 Guineas winners.<\/p>\n

Bosra Sham – 1996<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bosra Sham was sent off the odds on favourite for the 1996 2000 Guineas despite having an injury-plagued interruption.<\/p>\n

Success at Newmarket was her fourth-straight victory, and it kicked off a year to remember for the Henry Cecil-trained filly.<\/p>\n

After victory at Newmarket, she headed to Ascot for a clash with the 2000 Guineas winner Mark Of Esteem.<\/p>\n

In a thrilling finish, she was caught by Mark Of Esteem, with the winner being given a Timeform rating of 137 – making it one of the best performances ever recorded over one mile.<\/p>\n

Having been edged out at Ascot, Bosra Sham then headed to Champions Stakes at Newmarket, where she comprehensively defeated the five-year-old Halling.<\/p>\n

She ended 1996 as the top-rated three-year-old filly and was the highest-rated horse in Europe and North America over a mile and a quarter.<\/p>\n

Attraction – 2004<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trained by Mark Johnston, Attraction won her first five starts as a two-year-old, including the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and the Cherry Hinton at Newmarket.<\/p>\n

That Cherry Hinton was her final appearance due to injury before the 1000 Guineas, a staggering 299 days later.<\/p>\n

Attraction was sent off the 11\/2 second-favourite despite her extended absence, and she put in a stunning performance to defeat the favourite Sundrop into 2nd place.<\/p>\n

She then headed to the Curragh for the Irish 1000 Guineas and once more put in an impressive performance to take the victory before heading to the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she once more tasted success.<\/p>\n

And that Royal Ascot victory cemented her place as the best three-year-old filly in the world over one mile in 2004.<\/p>\n

Minding – 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

Minding is one of the best fillies Aidan O\u2019Brien has ever trained, landing seven Group 1 races in a distinguished career, including the 1000 Guineas in 2016.<\/p>\n

She was sent off the 11\/10 favourite at Newmarket and put in a scintillating display to take the victory with her stablemates Ballydoyle and Alice Springs in 2nd and 3rd.<\/p>\n

Returning to Ireland for the Irish 1000 Guineas, she was only 2nd, but she returned to the UK for the Epsom Oaks, and she put in another commanding performance to take the victory.<\/p>\n

Three Group 1 successes followed in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot, earning her the title of the horse of the year for 2016.<\/p>\n

She returned in 2017 as a four-year-old but sadly picked up a career-ending injury, and she was retired for breeding.<\/p>\n
