Germany are one of the most successful sides in international football. With no less than 4 World Cups and 3 European Championships to their name, some of the world\u2019s greatest players having played for Die Mannschaft. However, for every Beckenbauer or Schweinsteiger, there are also some very forgettable players to pull on the famous shirt. With that in mind, just who are the worst German players ever to play for the natioanl team?<\/p>\n

\u00a0Who are the worst German players of all time?<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jermaine Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whilst he made 70 appearances for the USA, Jermaine Jones could have had a much different look to his international portfolio had he stuck with the German national side. The midfielder qualified for Die Mannschaft having spent his entire career in the Bundesliga up to his 2008 call-up. It was here where he made 3 appearances in friendlies where his lack of ball control and fitness soon became apparent.<\/p>\n

Despite several chances, Joachim Loew saw that Jones\u2019 was not up to the level of other talents coming through Germany\u2019s youth system. It was here that Jones switched allegiance back to his native USA<\/a> and became a regular for them for the best part of the 2010s.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Christian Pander<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once upon a time, many thought that Christian Pander would become one of the dangerous left-backs in the game. That never came to fruition though and ultimately he was bad enough to make our list of the worst Germany players<\/a> of all time. Known for his powerful shots, Pander put the world on notice with a stunning strike against England in his debut in 2007.<\/p>\n

That would be his only highlight however. After a second cap against Wales just one month later, he faded quickly away from the national set-up. Having struggled for game time with both Schalke and Hannover, Pander slowly lost interest in his footballing career and quit to become a professional DJ in 2015. An international career that faded before it began.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Heiko Westermann<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heiko Westerman had a career that was seen by many fans as a running joke. Despite having a tall and powerful figure, Westermann was unable to use any of it to any real effectiveness. With no pace or footballing IQ, he was often seen as a liability and all arms and legs when facing opponents.<\/p>\n

However, it didn\u2019t stop him from earning 27 caps for Germany. He did also score 4 times for his country, although with opponents such as Liechtenstein and the UAE on his list, it was hardly a challenge for someone in one of the world\u2019s biggest football powerhouses.<\/p>\n

Marvin Compper<\/strong><\/p>\n

When your only Germany match is a clash against an old rival such as England, you need to make an impact. Unfortunately for Marvin Compper, that didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n

The defender never really looked comfortable in his role with the national side and found himself on the losing end against England when he debuted in 2008. From there, Compper never got a chance to appear again at international level fading into midlevel obscurity with bench warming roles for clubs like RB Leipzig and even Celtic.<\/p>\n

Nicolai Muller<\/strong><\/p>\n

A lively winger on his day, Nicolai Muller had the skillset to trouble defenders on occasion. Sadly, he could never put any consistency together when in the spotlight and ended his career being known as one of the worst Germany players ever.<\/p>\n

Muller had a couple of chances to show his worth to the national side in 2013 with brief appearances against Ecuador and the USA. That would be the only chance he would get though as he found goals hard to come by and lost any chance of regaining a spot in the national team.<\/p>\n

Marko Marin<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his youth years, it looked like Marko Marin might become a prodigy who would be a regular for the German national side. However, the Bosnian-born winger lacked the one thing any attacker needs: a cutting-edge. Instead, Marin\u2019s mazy runs and hard work would go wasted as he often fluffed his lines when the pressure was on.<\/p>\n

With just one goal in 16 caps, Marin faded away from the Germany setup after the 2010 World Cup. His career never recovered after an ill-fated move to Chelsea and has since seen the winger become a real journeyman playing for clubs in Turkey, Greece, Serbia and Saudi Arabia since his final cap.<\/p>\n
