Tottenham seem certain to miss out on next season’s Champions League and the squad needs an overhaul if they are to push for the top four once more next term. Who should Tottenham sign to become competitive again next season?<\/p>\n

Jose Mourinho will hope to rebuild his squad over the close-season but his budget might depend on whether he decides to sell some of the club’s valuable assets such as Tanguy Ndombele<\/a>, who has made little impact since becoming the club’s record signing last year.<\/p>\n

Defensive trio Danny Rose, Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth could also be sold to bring in funds, with rumours Mourinho is already clashing with Daniel Levy over Spurs’ transfer budget.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that the likes of England skipper Harry Kane need more support if Spurs are to challenge for silverware, so here are five players Tottenham could sign this summer.<\/p>\n

Who should Tottenham sign this summer? 5 contenders.<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Southampton)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Southampton stripped Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of the club captaincy<\/a> recently and the Denmark midfielder seems certain to leave the club this summer.<\/p>\n

Spurs are among the potential suitors for the combative 24-year-old, with speculation that Walker-Peters, who is on loan with the Saints, could be offered as a makeweight.<\/p>\n

Hojbjerg would certainly improve the protection of the Spurs defence, who have struggled to keep clean sheets since Mourinho was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.<\/p>\n

Southampton are said to want \u00a335 million for Hojbjerg but a deal could be done for less given the financial uncertainty many clubs are now dealing with.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gerson (Flamengo)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last month it was reported that Spurs had seen a \u00a316 million offer for Gerson rejected<\/a> by Brazilian club Flamengo but negotiations could resume ahead of the 2020-21 season.<\/p>\n

Gerson, a midfielder who has previously played for Roma and Fiorentina in Serie A, is highly valued by Flamengo after he helped them to win the Brazilian league title.<\/p>\n

Flamengo might be forced to sell as a result of financial issues caused by the coronavirus crisis, however, which could allow Spurs to snap Gerson up relatively cheaply.<\/p>\n

Chelsea are another Premier League side said to be keeping a close eye on the progress of Gerson. The Blues have already been adding to their squad for next season with the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Nicolo Zaniolo (Roma)<\/strong><\/p>\n

While Gerson appears to be a reasonably affordable option for Spurs, they could be priced out of a move for Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo, who made his comeback from injury at the weekend.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old has recorded four Serie A goals this season and is capable of filling a number of roles in midfield and attack, so his arrival would give Mourinho a lot of different options.<\/p>\n

But with Roma said to be demanding a fee in excess of \u00a360 million for their prized asset, the price could be beyond Spurs if they cut their cloth after missing out on Champions League football.<\/p>\n

Spurs reportedly offered Toby Alderweireld in a swap-deal for Zaniolo last year and further negotiations could be possible in the coming weeks but Real Madrid are also keen which could prove problematic.<\/p>\n

Max Aarons (Norwich)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Serge Aurier is said to be on the list of players Spurs are trying to move on but who should Tottenham sign to replace him at right-back? One option could be Norwich City’s Max Aarons.<\/p>\n

Despite The Canaries almost certainly heading back down to the Championship at the first time of asking, Aarons has impressed in defence and he might have done enough to earn a big move.<\/p>\n

Norwich reportedly slapped a \u00a345 million price tag on him<\/a> at the start of the year but the impact of COVID-19 is expected to push down transfer fee for some time to come.<\/p>\n

Arsenal are among the clubs also being linked with signing Aarons so there could be a big battle between the North London rivals for his signature.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Eberechi Eze (QPR)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Championship could be a market worth exploring this summer with QPR ace Eberechi Eze among the players expected to make the step up to the Premier League sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

Eze, 22, has contributed 12 goals and another eight assists despite QPR struggling to make an impact in the Championship this season, they sit in the bottom half of the table.<\/p>\n

West Ham and Newcastle United are among the Premier League clubs thought to be considering making a move for Eze, who was the target of bids back in January.<\/p>\n

QPR manager Mark Warburton has said Eze has the talent to play for a top-six club in the Premier League, so could he be a part of Mourinho’s rebuilding project at Spurs?<\/p>\n
