The global Coronavirus pandemic has been a hugely testing time for people and businesses around the world and charities are, unfortunately, no exception. Reportedly as many as one in ten UK charities are facing bankruptcy<\/a> by the end of 2020 as a result of Covid-19, meaning it’s now more important than ever for you to support your charity of choice. With that in mind we thought it would be a great time to check in with the three charities who we have worked with over the last year as part of our Conscious Colossus charity scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n

YGAM<\/h3>\n

YGAM, the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust are, in their own words, “a national charity with a social purpose to inform, educate, safeguard and build digital resilience amongst young and vulnerable people. Helping them to make informed decisions and understand the consequences around gambling and gaming.”<\/p>\n

Conscious Colossus caught up with Daniel Bliss, Head of External Affairs at YGAM, to find out how they have adapted to lockdown. Daniel told us;<\/p>\n

“For YGAM, the lockdown has afforded the opportunity to accelerate our digital transformation strategy. The team has responded creatively and reconfigured our content for digital platforms. As well as the YGAM Practitioner Workshops, which have been presented as a blended, sophisticated digital offering, we have also launched our \u2018Parent Hub\u2019 websit\"\"<\/a>e which is dedicated to providing a wealth of resources and activities to support families and help build digital resilience.”<\/p>\n

Their hugely commendable and innovative efforts have even been recognised by the Shadow Minister for Charities, Rachael Maskell, who warmly praised YGAM<\/a> by saying;<\/p>\n

“I am extremely impressed by the prompt digital transformation of their resources and delivery model. I have been speaking to charities right across the UK to share insight on some of the struggles but also some of the positives. YGAM is a leading example of how charities have successfully innovated, and the team should be very proud.”<\/p>\n

Alive and Kicking<\/h3>\n

Alive and Kicking are the world’s only not-for-profit ball manufacturer. Their official website describes their role as the following; “Our centres across sub-Saharan Africa create hundreds of ethical jobs for adults facing disadvantage. Profits from balls sales and additional fundraising give young people access to sport and health education through A+K ball donations and the delivery of effective sport based health programmes.”<\/p>\n

Conscious Colossus spoke to Ben Sadler, the CEO of Alive and Kicking, who gave us an update on how they have reacted to the ongoing Covid-19 situation;\"conscious<\/a><\/p>\n

“Alive and Kicking support communities facing disadvantage by using football as a force for good. One key area of our work is the delivery of football based health education so young people have the tools they need to live happy and healthy lives. We are in the process of rolling out vital COVID-19 health education but need your help. Join AKFC to promote our health programmes and give more young people the knowledge and skills to stay safe.”<\/p>\n

The Greyhound Trust<\/h3>\n

The Greyhound Trust are an animal welfare charity who help to rehome retired racing greyhounds. On the Greyhound Trust website, the charity give some background into their history, stating that “The Greyhound Trust was founded in 1975, since then we are proud to have found over 100,000 loving homes for greyhounds. Each year, we home approximately\"\"<\/a> 3,500 retired racing greyhounds and help hundreds more, but there are many more that still need us.”<\/p>\n

There are plenty of different ways in which you can support The Greyhound Trust, including sponsoring greyhounds<\/a>, fundraising on the charity’s behalf<\/a> or even volunteering<\/a>. As lockdown restrictions continue to lift around the country they are currently hoping to recruit as many volunteers as possible so now is a great time to get involved and help look after these amazing animals.<\/p>\n
