Premier League darts betting tips – Week 4<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Glen Durrant vs. Nathan Aspinall<\/h3>\n

These two might be in their maiden Premier League campaigns but you wouldn\u2019t know it from the opening weeks.<\/p>\n

Last week they defeated the holders of a combined 5 World Championships as Glen Durrant convincingly beat Gary Anderson 7-4, to put himself top of the Premier League table, and Nathan Aspinall shocked Michael van Gerwen to go joint second with the Dutchman.<\/p>\n

So far the players have extremely similar tournament stats. Aspinall has thrown 7x 180s to Durrant\u2019s 5, with the players possessing tournament averages of 95.26 and 94.82 respectively. They\u2019ve each had 2 similarly difficult fixtures and one against a wildcard. There really isn\u2019t much between them.<\/p>\n

Four of their six combined Premier League games so far have gone all the way, including both games in weeks two and three. I am struggling to find a tangible argument to back one over the other so am expecting another 12 leg match here. I\u2019ll take the draw but will cover 7-5 to both players as well.<\/p>\n

Premier League darts betting tips: 6-6 Draw<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Rob Cross vs. Gary Anderson<\/h3>\n

Another similarly tough game to predict as we move from two players fresh from a victory to a couple who suffered defeat last time out.<\/p>\n

The story continues for Rob Cross who continues to grind out results despite playing far from his best. Although he lost 7-5 to Peter Wright last week, that the match came down to the final leg despite Cross being comprehensibly outplayed is a testament to his doggedness.<\/p>\n

Wright threw 3x 180s to Cross\u2019 1, 29x 100+ visits versus 20 and the Scot had an average of 101.95 which was over 11 points bigger than Voltage\u2019s 90.13. Yet, despite inferior results in virtually every metric, Cross just needed to\u00a0 hold his throw to get a point.<\/p>\n

Anderson, who I may have been slightly overeager to declare as having returned to his best<\/a>, lost comfortably to Glen Durrant despite have near identical stats. He is clearly going to be a difficult player to predict this season with his highs clearly still higher than those of most opponents yet not enough of them visible to fully trust him.<\/p>\n

I think you can safely assume that Cross will take it right to the wire again and, on this occasion, I\u2019ll back him to come out on top. Ultimately it can\u2019t be long until Cross gets back to his A-game and, when he does, he\u2019ll start beating people.<\/p>\n

Premier League darts betting tips: Cross 7-5<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Daryl Gurney vs. Michael Smith<\/h3>\n

Just three weeks in and Daryl Gurney already looks bang in trouble. Although it\u2019s very early days to be worrying about being bottom of the table, indeed a comfortable win could even take him above Smith here, he won\u2019t like that he has the lowest tournament average (94.34) and the joint fewest 180s. This from a man who threw the most maximums in the Premier League just a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n

He takes on Bully Boy Michael Smith this week, a man who has had to overcome numerous injuries<\/a> yet is, in my eyes, the form player in the league.<\/p>\n

Smith was sensational in week 2 against Gerwyn Price, averaging 120 odd after 8 legs, before mentally caving. However, he put it right last week by drubbing wildcard Jonny Clayton 7-1 and managing the average of the week, 105.51.<\/p>\n

I genuinely believe that if Smith can just develop the mental resolve to limit these collapses he will be up there with van Gerwen fighting to become the best in the world. He is that good.<\/p>\n

Gurney takes on Smith at the wrong time. Based on the differences in their performances last week, it would take a seismic shift for the Northern Irishman to match him this time. You can never rule it out in darts but, giving Gurney\u2019s confidence levels at the moment, I\u2019ll take Smith for another routine win.<\/p>\n

Premier League darts betting tips: Smith 7-4<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

William O\u2019Connor vs. Michael van Gerwen<\/h3>\n

MVG\u2019s surprise loss to Nathan Aspinall was the eye-catching result of the week last Thursday. The Dutchman certainly wasn\u2019t flying and looked out of sorts as he missed eight of his 13 doubles.<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll want to get immediately back on track this week and has the perfect opportunity against the weekly Contender, William O\u2019Connor.<\/p>\n

The Irish world number 37 will be roared on by the Dublin crowd but the added pressure of home favouritism can be a blessing and a curse. If van Gerwen comes out firing and gets a break, the crowd will quiet down and that is when O\u2019Connor will know that he\u2019s in trouble.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s lost 6 of 12 matches this year and a 6-0 whitewash at the hands of Darren Webster on Sunday is hardly ideal preparation.<\/p>\n

For me it isn\u2019t really a question of who wins but by how many. Can O\u2019Connor stay in the game long enough to make it respectable or will MVG just race away. I\u2019ll take the middle ground.<\/p>\n

Premier League darts betting tips: van Gerwen 7-3<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Gerwyn Price vs. Peter Wright<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s 3rd<\/sup> vs. 2nd<\/sup> in the world and 5th<\/sup> vs. 6th<\/sup> in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Price is earning himself a reputation as something of a draw merchant so far, reaching a stalemate in each of his three matches. One of those should, without a shadow of a doubt, have ended in defeat to Michael Smith but a combination of Smith losing the plot and Price\u2019s tough mentality saw another 6-6.<\/p>\n

Wright is level on points with Price with an identical leg difference having won, lost and drawn one apiece. Like Price, he has seen every match go to a final leg decider so don\u2019t be surprised if that occurs again here.<\/p>\n

There are two ways to look at Wright\u2019s results. On one hand you could argue that a loss followed by a draw and then a win shows an upturn in form.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, one might also say that, having played van Gerwen follow by Cross and then Aspinall, he is merely performing better against increasingly weak opposition.<\/p>\n

I simply don\u2019t think the Premier League format suits Wright as well as it does other players and don\u2019t believe he has performed at his best so far.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Price will be confident after winning a PTC event at the weekend and will be desperate to claim his first win as the only player without a win or a loss so far.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s certain to be close and I have a hunch that the Welshman can nick it.<\/p>\n
