Racing expert Steven Dowler makes his Colossus debut by tackling the \u00a35,000 Place 6<\/a> at Market Rase. He reckons that Winningiseverything should live up to his name and is the banker of the day in the Novices’ Hurdle.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

12.00 – Juvenile Hurdle<\/h3>\n

Quite a tricky opener as most of these are having their hurdles debut but I really like two to kick off proceedings.<\/p>\n

We start with LORD LAMINGTON who was a decent stayer on the flat, winning three times, and ran well thereafter off marks 80+. Alan King has a brilliant record with flat recruits and Thomas Bellamy is riding as well as ever for his boss this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lord Lamington will be ready for this and, providing he puts in a clear round, he will be bang there at the finish as he is only one of just a few who are proven over 2 miles.<\/p>\n

I also think SILKSTONE will be thereabouts come the business end of this race<\/a>. He\u2019s a soft ground winner<\/a> on the flat who had run against some decent horses in that sphere and was eye-catching on hurdles debut when he didn\u2019t jump all that fluently and wasn\u2019t given a hard time of things but stayed on well to not be beaten far. Silkstone will know more today and with hurdles experience on his side, he must be a lively contender.<\/p>\n

12.30 – Novices’ Hurdle<\/h3>\n

My sole selection and banker on the card has to be WINNINGISEVERYTHING, who showed promise in bumpers before stepping up in trip on hurdles debut on soft ground and he jumped slickly from the front and scooted home by five lengths. His form has been boosted with the third win since.<\/p>\n

He gets his favoured soft ground today and, although he has to carry a penalty for that victory<\/a>, Harry Fry has booked Richard Johnson to ride so they mean business. Even though he\u2019s a short priced favourite, he should prove<\/a> too good for this field.<\/p>\n

13.05 – Handicap Hurdle<\/h3>\n

This looks the toughest race on today\u2019s card but three stand out for me.<\/p>\n

OSCARS LEADER<\/a> showed so much promise on his first four runs, when he finished no worse than fourth against some very good horses. He\u2019s failed to build on that since but ran well on his return for a long way when fifth of ten off a 111 mark and has been dropped 5lbs here on stable debut for Jennie Candlish. He\u2019s very well treated here on a much reduced mark and he should be able to take another step forward from his return<\/a> on ground to suit.<\/p>\n

We can also take note of TORRID, representing Mick Easterby and Blair Campbell. Torrid didn\u2019t look entirely convincing over fences last time but has been knocking on the door over obstacles with form figures reading 3-2-2-2-3-3 and he makes his hurdle handicap<\/a> debut here off a lenient mark. It won\u2019t be long before he does get his head in front over hurdles for his consistency and, with a strong pace likely tomorrow with conditions and track to suit, he has major place<\/a> claims once again.<\/p>\n

COLLODI is also worth a mention. He was unlucky over C&D when last seen and was second the time<\/a> before that off this exact mark in a class 3 event. He isn\u2019t getting any younger but he\u2019s more than capable at this level and his form at this track is also very strong so, if over that latest mishap, I wouldn\u2019t be at all surprised to see this 10yo run another big race<\/a> at a track he seems to relish.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

13.40 – Handicap Chase<\/h3>\n

I think this is a very weak race and, although he comes with risks attached, I believe ASK PADDY will show up better than he did last time out. He\u2019s a real soft ground specialist, who is back down to a decent mark having been a three time winner<\/a> on this type of ground back in 2017 and then placed twice in class 4 company off higher marks than this. I think connections will have him spot on for tomorrow\u2019s winnable contest and he should prove tough to keep out of the frame at the very least.<\/p>\n

Although he has not seen out his races as connections would have liked, GLOBAL RULER\u00a0\u00a0takes a drop down in grade for this event on a fair mark. He ran well from the front against tougher opposition last time out following an absence and a wind operation. Harry Skelton will probably ride him positively again tomorrow with fitness assured this time. If he can handle the soft ground, he looks a massive player<\/a> and could well get off the mark for the Skeltons as this is a very good opportunity.<\/p>\n

14.15 – Handicap Chase<\/h3>\n

We have another tough handicap to solve but ZARA HOPE has shaped well on both starts for this yard over fences off a mark 100. She runs in tomorrow\u2019s race off 2 pound lower and is course hurdles winner<\/a> off a mark 104. That gives her massive claims on tomorrow\u2019s terms with conditions to suit and Kielan Woods is a very capable rider so with more improvement to come, she has a chance of gaining another course win<\/a>.<\/p>\n

My other choice is RUNNING WOLF, who hasn\u2019t been seen for a long time and is tricky to win with but is back on his last winning mark and usually runs<\/a> in better class company than this. If connections have him fit enough here, there is no reason why he can\u2019t run a blinder on his reappearance.<\/p>\n

14.50 – Handicap Hurdle<\/h3>\n

MAMOO looks well handicapped here and has had just two runs<\/a> for this yard. He\u2019s a two time winner<\/a> off much higher marks, stays further than this and has been running well for a long time off higher marks without getting his head back in front. This is a nice opportunity off a mark he can exploit and the headgear is retained which looks positive. Mamoo is mainly seen in class 4 company and he drops down a class tomorrow on a 3 pound lower mark than when last seen, so he should be more than ready to run a huge race.<\/p>\n

I find it hard to discount SPLASH THE CASH despite her not running up to form the last few times. However, she\u2019s 4 pound lower than when second on her handicap debut and has plenty of stamina in her pedigree to suggest this longer trip should suit and cheekpieces are now fitted which could bring out further improvement. If able to reproduce her best form, she will definitely be on the premises in this weak event.<\/p>\n
