We\u2019re now eight games into the new Premier League season and notoriously poor\u00a0starters Everton are sixth in the table having lost just once so far. Since arriving at the\u00a0helm, Ronald Koeman has completely transformed the mood around Goodison Park and\u00a0the Toffees will be quietly confident of sneaking back into the Europa League this season.<\/p>\n

If nothing else, Koeman has brought confidence and hunger back to Everton\u2019s style of\u00a0play after Roberto Martinez\u2019s lacklustre tenure at the helm. While the former Wigan\u00a0Athletic boss was a nice guy, he just couldn\u2019t cut it at the top level \u2013 and that is exactly\u00a0where the Toffees aspire to be; Everton need a competent manager to guide<\/a> them back\u00a0to the top.<\/p>\n

Ronald Koeman<\/a> is just that. He has gained managerial experience at a number of\u00a0Europe\u2019s biggest football<\/a> clubs, including but not limited to Barcelona, Ajax and PSV\u00a0Eindhoven. At the end of the day, Koeman\u2019s style and strategy suits Everton\u2019s long-term\u00a0plan a lot more than Martinez<\/a> did and that is perhaps the main reason for their rise to\u00a0prominence.<\/p>\n

The Toffees signed<\/a> a few players this summer but Koeman didn\u2019t do much in the transfer\u00a0market if truth be told. The arrivals of Ashley Williams, Maarten Stekelenburg and Yannick\u00a0Bolasie have certainly helped to bolster the squad, as well as introducing some healthy\u00a0competition for places \u2013 a key reason for Everton\u2019s improvement as players<\/a> must now\u00a0strive to develop on a weekly basis.<\/p>\n

Last season, far too many Everton stars were happy to just cruise by. Simply put,\u00a0Koeman won\u2019t allow it. While a few of Everton\u2019s key personalities didn\u2019t exactly see eye-to-eye with Martinez, Koeman appears to have the full respect of the dressing room. If he\u00a0doesn\u2019t, the former Southampton<\/a> boss is doing very well to keep these issues behind\u00a0closed doors.<\/p>\n

Romelu Lukaku<\/a> was just one of those players who never really clicked under Martinez but\u00a0he appears to be back to his brilliant and brutal best. The Belgium international has\u00a0scored six goals in his last four appearances for Everton<\/a> and his form will be crucial to\u00a0their chances of finishing in the Europa League places this campaign.<\/p>\n

With the likes of Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas responding positively to Koeman\u2019s\u00a0methods, Everton will find themselves creating plenty of opportunities \u2013 something that\u00a0cannot be said of Martinez\u2019s side last season. Barkley hasn\u2019t enjoyed the best of starts to\u00a0the new campaign but he is still young and that consistency will come. Meanwhile,\u00a0Mirallas has been much-improved; recording a goal and an assist in six Premier League\u00a0starts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you look at Everton\u2019s next four fixtures, there are certainly points to be won and\u00a0Koeman will be rallying his troops ahead of this particular run. Next up for the Toffees is a\u00a0trip to Burnley before they host Slaven Bilic\u2019s struggling West Ham United<\/a> side at the end\u00a0of the month. Following on from that encounter, a potentially difficult clash at Stamford\u00a0Bridge<\/a> beckons before Everton welcome Swansea City to Goodison Park.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Koeman will expect Everton to pick up seven points<\/a> from these four fixtures, if\u00a0not nine. The Dutchman<\/a> has got the Toffees heading in the right direction and, given time,\u00a0they could mature into an elite, top-six side.
