Watford v Arsenal<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arsene Wenger\u2019s tenure at Arsenal is once again a hot topic of debate in football circles.\u00a0Understandably so this time.\u00a0There can be no legitimate reason why the Frenchman hasn\u2019t delved heavily into the\u00a0transfer kitty that the owners have made clear is available \u2013 and has been for some while.\u00a0The frugality that Wenger consistently displays was laudable at one time. Now, it\u2019s plain\u00a0stupidity.<\/p>\n

If the Gunners want to compete with the big boys then, simply put, they need to spend.\u00a0Without a win in their opening two games, they sit directly above Watford on the same\u00a0points but only by virtue of having scored one more goal than their hosts.<\/p>\n

The Hornets have undergone something of a transformation over the summer and if they\u2019re\u00a0able to get a win or two under their belts, it could see things begin to fall into place.\u00a0Vicarage Road isn\u2019t the most hospitable of grounds for opponents but Arsenal can silence\u00a0the home support with a long-overdue goal haul here.<\/p>\n

It won\u2019t be as free-flowing as Wenger would like, but a 1-2<\/strong> away victory will be manna from\u00a0heaven.<\/p>\n

Everton v Stoke<\/strong><\/p>\n

The way Stoke were ripped apart by Manchester City will have hurt Mark Hughes. Not because it was against his old side, but because it limited the effectiveness of the system\u00a0that the Welshman strives to use in every game.<\/p>\n

Pep Guardiola\u2019s side simply passed the Potters off of the park and with Ronald Koeman also\u00a0schooled in the Barca way, we could well see Everton do the same.<\/p>\n

The Toffees have been boosted by the news, confirmed by the manager, that Romelu\u00a0Lukaku will stay at Goodison Park this season.\u00a0His partnership with Gerard Deulofeu was one of the success stories of the last campaign\u00a0and the Dutchman will be an interested spectator as and when that sparks again.\u00a0In the meantime, the hosts will have to earn their three points the hard way.<\/p>\n

The midfield battle will see the game won or lost and just that little bit of extra quality in the\u00a0final third should see Everton over the line.<\/p>\n

An absorbing encounter awaits and a Lukaku brace seals this one 2-0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Leicester v Swansea<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two games without a win probably wasn\u2019t the start that Claudio Ranieri had in mind for his\u00a0reigning Champions, albeit his caveat to the campaign was that there was more chance of\u00a0ET returning to earth than there was of the Foxes retaining their title.<\/p>\n

No matter. The club have to kick-start their season at the King Power to see the returning of\u00a0the feel good factor that underscored their unlikely triumph in 2015\/16.\u00a0The expectation isn\u2019t nearly as high, but the Italian won\u2019t want his side to go from the\u00a0pinnacle of English football to the equivalent of a one-hit wonder that immediately fades\u00a0into obscurity.<\/p>\n

Swansea for their part, have and an entirely under-the-radar start to their season, and as a\u00a0result can come into this game without too much pressure on their shoulders.\u00a0The likelihood of being able to impose their natural game is high and the longer the game\u00a0goes without a goal or two for the hosts, the more the atmosphere will benefit the visitors.<\/p>\n

I can see this being a tight, but exciting affair but one with no winner. Any Other Draw<\/strong> is my\u00a0selection here.<\/p>\n

Newcastle v Brighton<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rafael Benitez hasn\u2019t had quite the start he would\u2019ve hoped for this season, two wins and\u00a0two losses seeing Newcastle stuck in mid-table along with five other clubs on six points.<\/p>\n

Brighton by contrast have started this campaign as they did the last and are unbeaten in\u00a0four, just two points behind early Championship leaders Huddersfield.\u00a0Despite the long journey from the south coast, Chris Hughton will fancy the Seagull\u2019s\u00a0chances against a side who have been under pressure from the first whistle of the season.<\/p>\n

The Magpies are expected to go back up at the first attempt and as Champions. Nothing else\u00a0will convince the locals that Benitez is the right man to lead them back into the big time and\u00a0being genuine challengers in the Premier League.\u00a0That remains some way off and the Spaniard needs to inject some positivity into a team that\u00a0has all of the tools at their disposal to be a success.<\/p>\n

Patience will be key in this game because Brighton are silky smooth in possession and\u00a0although they\u2019re the away side, are likely to have the lion\u2019s share of the ball.\u00a0A vociferous local support need to get behind the players and make the atmosphere\u00a0intimidating for all of the right reasons. There\u2019s nothing worse for a player than being scared\u00a0to put a foot wrong in front of his home fans.<\/p>\n

A tough assignment but one which will enhance Benitez\u2019s credentials. A 1-0<\/strong> will do just fine\u00a0here.<\/p>\n

West Brom v Middlesbrough<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Teesiders are something of an unknown quantity at the moment, as everyone gets to\u00a0grips with exactly what it is that Aitor Karanka and his charges bring to the party.<\/p>\n

As West Brom will quickly find out, a continental style of play but with a very British edge is\u00a0an intoxicating mix. And one that over the course of the season is likely to prove successful.\u00a0Staying in the division will be the minimum requirement but rest assured that Jose\u00a0Mourinho\u2019s former right-hand man will be aiming higher than that. Much higher.<\/p>\n

The Baggies can be a real force at home and although Tony Pulis\u2019 sides don\u2019t win marks for\u00a0artistic impression, the manager always seems to be able to extract the absolutely\u00a0maximum from his teams.<\/p>\n

Alvaro Negredo knows the league well and will provide an ominous threat for the visitors, as\u00a0will the raiding of Stewart Downing and Albert Adomah.<\/p>\n

The hosts will have their work cut out to keep the score down and I predict a 0-2<\/strong> victory for\u00a0a team that will surprise a few people this season.<\/p>\n

Man City v West Ham<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a stunning start to their campaign away from home last season, a win for West Ham at\u00a0the Etihad, and a comprehensive one at that, really made people sit up and take notice of\u00a0Slaven Bilic\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

They approach this one in a wholly different frame of mind however.\u00a0By the time the game comes around, the Hammers will know if they\u2019re in the Europa League\u00a0proper or not, and given that their squad hasn\u2019t managed to get quite the depth to it\u00a0required over the summer \u2013 Bilic unable to attract a number of targets \u2013 the added pressure\u00a0of a European campaign might be a hindrance rather than a help.<\/p>\n

In any event, they\u2019re up against a Man City side who\u2019ve really hit the ground running under\u00a0Pep Guardiola.\u00a0Their 4-1 win away at Stoke, coming on the back of a fine performance against Steaua\u00a0Bucharest, has served notice that the Catalans\u2019 interchangeable pass and move style will be\u00a0just as much a hit in England as it has been in Germany or Spain.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s too early to be talking about title wins and the like but on current form, they\u2019ll take\u00a0some stopping. A landslide Any Other Home Win<\/strong> is my last pick this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
