Chepstow Tips: Dell’ Arca looks set to shine

Chepstow Tips

He’s been focussing on the dogs recently but Cheltmental still writes a mean horse racing tipping piece as he has demonstrated with the excellent preview of the £3,000 Place 6 at Chepstow on Friday. If you agree with his Chepstow Tips then you can join his Syndicate.

14:10 – PERSIAN WAR NOVICES’ HURDLE (GRADE 2) – 2M 3 ½ F

This looks a good a renewal of this race and there should be plenty of future winners in here.

TREVELYN’S CORN was the one I picked out from the early entries and I won’t jump ship now, but I am very worried about THYME HILL who I expected not to be in the line up. That’s thrown a spanner in the works in terms of perceived value, with the Short Term Ante Post suggestion for the selection but you could arguably make a steady case for almost half the field.

Verdict: TREVELYN’S CORN, THYME HILL

14:45 – NOVICES’ HURDLE (Class 4) – 2m

At first glance a pretty weak looking novice hurdle but there are a few to keep an eye on here and Colin Tizzard trains two.

HARRY SENIOR & OFALLTHEGINJOINTS should both run well in here and it’s only FLIC OU VOYOU who I’d think could steal the spoils from Tizzard.

Verdict: HARRY SENIOR, OFALLTHEGINJOINTS, FLIC OU VOYOU

15:20 – NOVICES’ CHASE (Class 3) – 2M 7 ½ F

6 runner field but it looks a pretty useful one, although I’d be surprised if either DE NAME EVADES ME or GOLDEN SUNRISE were the best of the bunch. The other four can have cases made for them, although TRUCKIN AWAY is very much one just to watch.

TRUCKERS LODGE has been earmarked for the Welsh National so I doubt Paul will be looking to get his mark raised here and he would probably prefer more testing conditions, although I do think he’s up to this.

LISNAGAR OSCAR would be the most obvious choice here although I have my reservations about how wound up he’ll be. Still, that said, he should be good enough to take this although I do expect ARDLETHEN to show a much improved effort than when well behind the selection at Aintree last spring.

He was a faller over hurdles which doesn’t fill you with confidence here but he’s a winning pointer so this will be where he shows his true ability.

Verdict: LISNAGAR OSCAR, ARDLETHEN

15:55 – VETERANS’ HANDICAP CHASE (Class 2) – 2M 7 ½ F

I’m expecting DELL’ ARCA to go very close in this. It’s always tricky with the older horses to be confident but I think he has a solid case to be made for him and there aren’t many in here I’d expect to do that well.

THE YOUNG MASTER has work to do on these terms now but found his form last season, whereas the opposite was true for PERFECT CANDIDATE last term but any sort of revival would see him run well.

Verdict: DELL’ ARCA

16:30 – 4YO HANDICAP HURDLE (Class 2) – 2M

I’d be very keen on KING D’ARGENT winning a handicap off this mark which is why he featured in my 20 to follow.

This looks a more competitive race than I’d have liked and you just don’t know if today will be his day but he’s had another wind op (which is a little concerning as his last was just before his last start) and I’d expect they’re ready to go with him.

SCARAMANGA will be popular and would be a the strongest realistic threat although PRAECEPS would be another I expect to run well.

Verdict: KING D’ARGENT, SCARAMANGA, PRAECEPS

17:00 – MARES HANDICAP CHASE – 2M 7 ½ F

A race hard to get excited about and I’d probably just side with the two youngest runners. STREAM LADY surely has more to come and, although she doesn’t look straightforward, she might be worth chancing in a open looking affair.

SILENT STEPS coming here after a wind op should be able to play a part and I rate as the biggest danger to my selection, although last year’s winner would have been the main pick if she had those cheekpieces back on.

Verdict: STREAM LADY, SILENT STEPS
