Ask The Captains: 2019/20 Predictions

We’ve had our say on the new season but our Captains also know what they’re talking about when it comes to the beautiful game. As such, we decided to put five to the test by challenging them to predict what will happen in the 2019/20 season. Read on to see what TwoPoundPunt, AlbertTipster, Bet Boss, 1st Class Punter and bbtipster went for.

Who will win the Premier League?

TwoPoundPunt: As happy as I am with United’s transfer window, I don’t think it has been great for Spurs or Liverpool who are the likely challengers. Can’t see past Man City here.

AlbertTipster: It’s hard to look past Man City and Liverpool again this year, so my value pick goes to Liverpool.

Bet Boss: Man City could probably put out two teams each week capable of finishing in the top 4. Liverpool are the only credible challengers but injuries to either Salah or Van Dijk would cripple them.

1st Class Punter: I think the rub of the green went Liverpool’s way last season so I see Man City winning quite comfortably this time.

bbtipster: I’m going for a 3 way race between Spurs, Liverpool & Man City going to the wire. Man City, again, will triumph, perhaps even on the last day!

Who are the top 4 in order?

TwoPoundPunt: City, United, Liverpool and Spurs.

AlbertTipster: Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Man United. It will be interesting how Chelsea cope without Hazard but I feel they’ll do well under Lampard. United should get the stability they need to start winning games consistently and, without Champions League football, their focus should be on the league. Tottenham to finish fifth.

Bet Boss: Liverpool in second. They need more quality to win the league but are head and shoulders above the rest. Chelsea in third. They have some of the best youth products in the country and a manager willing to play them. It’s combination that could prove inspired or idiotic. I’m willing to go with the former but it depend on Hudson Odoi, Barkley and Pulisic stepping up. Lastly Spurs who are very consistent, although losing Eriksen would have a huge impact.

1st Class Punter: I think Spurs will be third and a lot closer to Liverpool, with Man United coming fourth.

bbtipster: Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea.

Which club poses the biggest threat to the big 6?

TwoPoundPunt: If Everton get some more deals over the line in the next week it has to be them. But I still think they will be far behind.

AlbertTipster: Everton have a decent team and are probably the most likely to sneak sixth place, although I don’t think they will.

Bet Boss: There were signs at the end of last season that Rodgers was getting something extra out of Leicester and they should push on.

1st Class Punter: Everton and Leicester will be close but still a few points away from the big 6!

bbtipster: I think Leicester City could well get in the mix with Brendan Rogers at the helm. He has the experience and their squad still has quality players.

Who will be relegated?

TwoPoundPunt: Brighton, Sheffield United & Norwich

AlbertTipster: Sheffield United and Norwich are obvious choices but for me. Newcastle will struggle to stay in the Premier League after the departure of Rafa Benitez.

Bet Boss: History hasn’t been kind to promoted teams, especially ones that play expansive football. I don’t expect Norwich to fare much better than Fulham did last year. Sheffield United are probably better than given credit for. They could surprise a few before droping like a stone post-Christmas. Rafa Benitez performed minor miracles keeping Newcastle up but Steve Bruce isn’t the same calibre of manager.

1st Class Punter: Norwich and Sheffield United will concede a lot of goals and Brighton could slip into the third spot.

bbtipster: Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Norwich City.

Who will be the top scorer?

TwoPoundPunt: Harry Kane has had the summer off and I think he hits 30+ goals this year. 7/2 is a bit short though. I also like Anthony Martial each way at 66s. From what I’ve seen pre-season, my inkling is that he will be played more centrally.

AlbertTipster: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Bet Boss: I’ve not seen any signings who I think will outscore Sergio Aguero. Mo Salah, Sadio Mane & Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang will no doubt go close but Aguero has so much creativity.

1st Class Punter: If Harry Kane stays fit and starts scoring in August for once, I can see him getting 30 goals this year and winning the golden boot.

bbtipster: I think Liverpool will be one of the most attacking and exciting teams to watch in Europe this year with Mo Salah exceeding his great efforts last season.

Who will win PFA Player of the year?

TwoPoundPunt: Having said Man City to win the league it will probably come from them. Kevin De Bruyne suffered a long term injury last season and, if he stays fit, it’s probably his to lose.

AlbertTipster: Sadio Mane

Bet Boss: It will take some player to usurp Virgil Van Dijk but Raheem Sterling has been one of the top performing players in the league for a few years now and it might be his turn.

1st Class Punter: I’m going for an outsider, Dele Alli, to have a big season, grabbing a lot of goals from midfield before winning the PFA player of the year.

bbtipster: Mo Salah.

First manager to leave?

TwoPoundPunt: Woy.

AlbertTipster: Steve Bruce.

Bet Boss: Steve Bruce has inherited a car crash and may be the first casualty.

1st Class Punter: I have a feeling that Bournemouth might struggle this season and, if so, Eddie Howe could be gone by Christmas!

bbtipster: I tipped Jose Mourhino to be ousted early last season which came true and I think the bubble has burst for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already. Give it a few months and they’ll be looking for big name manager.

Which three teams will be promoted to the Premier League?

TwoPoundPunt: This is so tough but I’ll side with an obvious three; Leeds, Fulham and Stoke.

AlbertTipster: Leeds, Fulham and Middlesbrough.

Bet Boss: Brentford have been knocking on the door for years and a few canny singings this summer might give them the push they need. Nottingham Forest are a dark horse who always appear out of the pack. They have spent some money and the addition of Albert Adomah is a quality one. Fulham‘s front three alone should get them over the line.

1st Class Punter: I like the look of Leeds and their manager would be great in the premier league along with West Brom. Stoke to sneak up in the playoffs.

bbtipster: Leeds, Fulham and West Brom.

Who wins the FA Cup?

TwoPoundPunt: A total coin flip. I would love to see my team, Manchester United, give this a good crack after being turned over by Chelsea last year. Let’s go Ole.

AlbertTipster: Man City.

Bet Boss: The beauty of the FA Cup is the early rounds where giant killings are plentiful and heroes are made. Sadly the final is usually contested by the big 6 and I’ll lean towards a team like Arsenal, who may have fewer games at the business end of the season.

1st Class Punter: Spurs need a trophy big time and I feel Poch will go out all guns blazing and win the FA Cup.

bbtipster: With Spurs, City & Liverpool concentrating on bigger things it leaves the door open for Chelsea to give themselves something to cheer about!

What about the the League Cup?

TwoPoundPunt: Man City have a big enough squad to not have to field perceived weakened teams here.

AlbertTipster: Man United.

Bet Boss: Man City take this competition more seriously than some of the other big clubs and, having won it three of the last four years, they seem likely to continue that trend.

1st Class Punter: Man Utd have some good kids coming through who might well get a chance in the League Cup where they could surprise a few teams and win the lot!

bbtipster: I don’t quite think Everton are ready for a title challenge and may well miss out on European qualification but, with a good few signings, they could see silverware in the League Cup.

Who wins the Champions League?

TwoPoundPunt: The Barcelona front line is looking scary once again and, with the demise of Real, their only league competition lies in Atletico. I think they’ll go all out to win the Champions League.

AlbertTipster: This has to be Barcelona‘s year. They have spent big once again bringing more experience in Antoine Griezmann and, although their future is uncertain, their present is very solid.

Bet Boss: While Barcelona‘s addition of Griezmann made the headlines, the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Ajax might be their best business. They’ve lacked a link between the front and back since the departures of Xavi and Iniesta. He could fill it.

1st Class Punter: Barcelona have bought well and will take alot of beating. Hopefully they will play Man City in the final and produce a seven goal thriller!

bbtipster: Liverpool will miss out on the EPL title but shine through again in Europe.

Who wins Euro 2020?

TwoPoundPunt: It’s coming home. England.

AlbertTipster: The Netherlands are doing things properly now and have a good bunch of young players coming through.

Bet Boss: France are in pole position. Their best players from the world cup will, if anything, be better now than they were then so it’ll take some team to beat them.

1st Class Punter: Football’s Coming home! It could be the time for England to win a tournament and hopefully win in style.

bbtipster: I’ve been tipping Belgium for great things for the last few major championships as they had such a young and exciting squad. It’s time to cash in!
